2010 NBA Trade Deadline thread

There goes Hill

Bang, the problem with Houston is, they don't need another role player who plays defense. They have Hayes, Lowry, Ariza, Shane.

They really need somebody who can create their own shot/score effectively

Reports are Amare isn't interested in Cleveland, and the Cavs are pursuing other options.

@ Stat. This dude came out saying he was all about winning at this point (when there were reports of him opting in for the last year of his contract) and he wants to turn down playing with Lebron + Co.

Worst comes to worst, you opt out and hit the market. Or, possibly a 'ship

if Jeffries is moved and Amare isn't in Cleveland..pressure is back on...a little bit.

Many around the league are holding their breath until the Amar'e Stoudemire trade to the Cavaliers is announced.

But there could be one major road block.

A source said the five-time All-Star center let it be known that he does not want to come to Cleveland.

The Cavs have reportedly been informed of that news and have gone in another direction.

Theyhad reportedly offered center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, promising young powerforward J.J. Hickson and another player to the Suns for Stoudemire.

Thesource said judging from the changing winds of the NBA, it's nottotally out of the question that the Cavs could still make a deal forStoudemire.

But the 6-foot-10, 249-pound Stoudemire has littledesire of joining LeBron James and Shaquille O'Neal on the Cavs, evenif it meant bringing home an NBA championship.

One thing thatcould change Stoudemire's thought process, the source said, would be ifthe Cavs offered a contract extension. Stoudemire is supposedly seekinga three-year, $60 million extension.

He will earn $16.4 million this season and has a player option on his 2010-11 contract worth $17.7 million.

Reportedly, Stoudemire didn't mesh with O'Neal last year in Phoenix.

TheCavs might be targeting Wizards forward Antawn Jamison or Pacersforward/center Troy Murphy. Both are "stretch 4s" who can shoot fromthe perimeter and open up the paint for O'Neal and for James to slashto the basket.

Jamison, 33, has almost $28 million on his contract after this season.

The Cavs aren't the only team pursuing the 6-9, 230-pounder, either, as Miami has joined the fray.

Stoudemire's agent, Happy Walters, told ESPN that he hadn't discussed a possible deal with the Cavs as of Monday morning.

Since Stoudemire owns a house in the Miami area, some think he eventually wants to play for the Heat.

Miamiand Philadelphia, and possibly a few other teams, are making seriousoffers to the Suns for Stoudemire. The Suns would love to add 76ersswingman Andre Iguodala, a former college star at the University ofArizona, and still very popular in the state.

Heat owner MickyArison said he wouldn't part with forward Michael Beasley in any deal. The Heat are trying to entice the Suns with center Jermaine O'Neal'sbloated $23 million expiring contract. So far, it hasn't worked.

The Los Angeles Times reported that if the Stoudemire talks break down, the Cavs have a deal in place for Murphy.

Ilgauskashas a 15-percent trade kicker on his $11.5 million expiring contract. The Cavs would have had to add another player in a deal for Stoudemirebecause the contracts of Ilgauskas and Hickson came up $65,000 short.Someone such as Danny Green or Darnell Jackson would have to beincluded.

The 7-3 Ilgauskas would have to be paid about $1.7million if he's traded. It would have to be paid by the team acquiringhim, not the Cavs. The Cavs, though, could include cash in the deal.

Stoudemire also has a trade kicker, but since he's already making the league maximum, he's not eligible to receive it.

Some think if the Cavs make the deal, they'd want to sign Stoudemire to a contract extension by the June 30 deadline.

Anotheroption would be to allow him to become a free agent and use him in asign-and-trade. The Cavs could get a $15 million trade exception insuch a deal.

There was also talk of a three-way trade between the Cavs, Sixers and Suns.

TNT analyst Charles Barkley said it would be frightening for the Cavs to add Stoudemire.

"Thatwould be scary to have Amar'e on one wing and LeBron (James) on theother wing," he said. "All these trades are designed to do one thing, and that is to beat the Lakers."

Well, with D'Antoni saying he wants to play the youngsters more, and how the season restarts tomorrow, I expect this deal to get done pretty soon. To avoid players possibly getting injured and such.

that because we know why he would be traded, he has done good for the bulls because he guards bigger SG and scoring PG, but the bulls dont want to pay his contract since they want to be major players in the FA market next year.

hinrich play is not why the bulls want to trade him its his contract

Knicks in serious talks for McGrady

The New York Knicks are getting closer to reaching the Houston Rockets’ demands for Tracy McGrady(notes) and his $23 million expiring contract, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Knicks and Rockets have designed the framework of a deal that would unload New York’s Jared Jeffries(notes), Jordan Hill(notes) and either Al Harrington(notes) or Larry Hughes(notes) for McGrady, Joey Dorsey(notes) and Brian Cook(notes).

As talks stood on Monday, the price of dumping the burdensome contract of Jeffries – who is owed $6.9 million next season – comes with the Knicks and Rockets exchanging 2011 first-round picks and the Knicks’ 2012 first-round choice going to Houston. New York also might include a 2010 second-round pick.

The Utah Jazz own the Knicks’ first-round pick in 2010.

The completion of the deal isn’t imminent, but sources involved in the discussions are increasingly confident that after months of back and forth, which intensified over All-Star weekend, an agreement is within reach. TNT’s David Aldridge first reported that talks between the teams had picked up.

One of the hang-ups in the deal, sources said, could be the Knicks’ inclusion of either Harrington or Hughes. There are slight variations of the trade that would change depending on which of the two veteran Knicks’ expiring contracts are included. With Harrington over Hughes in the deal, the Rockets wouldn’t need to include Cook.

For the Knicks, the trade would accomplish two important things: First, it would get Jeffries’ salary cleared out, something general manager Donnie Walsh has tried to do since taking the job. This would give the Knicks even more flexibility to be a major player in this summer’s free-agent market. Also, the Knicks want to take a good look at McGrady and let him play as much of a role as he can handle the rest of the season. They may consider re-signing him for next season, based on his performance.

Rockets GM Daryl Morey would get Hill, the untested eighth pick in the 2009 draft, and first-round picks that could prove valuable. This will get the Rockets a significant measure of value for McGrady, who they exiled in December. McGrady, sources said, is excited about the possibility of joining the Knicks.

Wow, NY giving up 2 lottery picks for T-Mac
eek.gif
.

Realistically, I don't think NY is getting Lebron, Wade or Bosh. If Amare goes to Cleveland this week, then they aren't getting him either. If Atlanta have a good showing this postseason, which I think is highly likely, then NY can say goodbye to Joe Johnson as well. So who CAN the Knicks get? Boozer and Gay? I think NY fans are getting hyped up for nothing
laugh.gif

Also are the Celtics still down on Rondo? I know this would never happen, but what if they could send a package of Ray Allen and Rondo for CP3 and change from the Hornets
eek.gif
. I don't even like the Celtics like that, but that would be crazy.
