2012 Summer Olympics Thread: London July 27 - August 12

I don't get the hate. I've seen every event I've wanted to see and most of them live. It's finals week so I took off work and we've just been in the library or at home watching stuff throughout the day.
And then during prime time they show replays of events most people want to see.

china has led the medal count and its a big sign that they've grown so strong as a country.. sheesh.

Yes, government-controlled athletic drones are definitely a sign of progress as a country. A high medal count isn't a sign of strength, it's a sign of having a 1.5 billion-person talent pool, and locking up the chosen ones in East German-style athlete factories.

And China pads its medal count by dedicating itself to sports where they don't have to compete directly with the United States. They know they can't hang in a lot of things (they're essentially non-competitive in track & field, for example), and they know the United states doesn't care enough the other way, so they just focus on fringe and judged sports.

I havent read any of this thread, so maybe it was already addressed. But the TV coverage of this olympics has been horrible. I mean, 8-12 every night? Its on freakin tape delay. Why cant it be from 7-11 or 6-10? Shouldnt networks want kids to watch this? Working people?
And where are the other channels of coverage? I feel like there should be olympics on ALL DAY LONG. Its the FREAKIN OLYMPICS. There are some boring *** events, dont get me wrong.....but put those events on TV at noon on a tuesday for gods sake. I just dont understand the timing of the olympic covereage, and the lack of variety. This happens once every 4 years. People want more.
Or at least I do.

I understand the reasoning for tape delay and I dont have a big problem with it; however Im not a huge fan of the 8-12 time slot. It should be 7-11, youre right. I also hate how they keep going from sport to sport at night. Mabe its posted online, but there should be a rundown of what theyre showing and when during the prime time slot.

Also, I really wish theyd have a graphic on-screen of WHAT im watching. Is it a semi-final, a final, what is the event? Sometimes Ill flip over to coverage and see people swimming and have no idea how many laps theyve done or need to complete.

Other than those two things, I think theyve done a pretty good job with the coverage.

Dammmmmn Allison Schmitt crushed it in the relay

can't watch.. but how much a lead did the other team have?

The Aussies were ahead most of the first three legs for ~.6-.8 seconds so maybe a lil more than half a body length but she blew the last swimmer away and got ahead by like 1.5 lengths and in te end the US finished almost a second and change ahead...got the Olympic record too and just missed the WR :smokin
