2012 Summer Olympics Thread: London July 27 - August 12

is NBC the only site to watch it online ? I'm at work tryna watch but my viewing pass expired and idk my direct tv info :{

i thnk they deducted her because of the arms not tucked all the way in. and not HOLDING the landing long enough. but yeah. that was BS.

Watching it over and over I think maybe she had some extra forward momentum during her "forward presentation" after she landed, and stepped into her presentation to the judges really smoothly... Seemed like she was a little off balance but did an incredible job selling it.

ehh, I mean I think thats more of an issue with the rules. Look at the basketball side of it. How many teams arent gonna go all out against team USA or hold plays back.
I think tanking in pro sports is wrong because fans pay to see you play games. But in this case, I dont have a problem with this. The rules need to be changed

they gotta limit.

Damn Zagunis just got shut out of her 3-peat. Wont be bringing us gold in fencing this time around.

Hopefully she can snag that bronze.

I didn't know these medals were worth so little monetarily...gold is worth $640, silver like $300, and bronze less than $5 :eek that's crazy, although the symbolism of actually winning is priceless but damn

I completely understand why they did it, and while I don't agree with the sportsmanship-side of it, what made it worse was how blatant it all was.

But like you said, in basketball or football/soccer or a lot of other sports, its easier to tank.  So point-being, it'll always be a part of sports, unfortunately.

Get rid of the round-robin format.

Anyway... swimming time.

How'd they even do that though? Like didnt one team have to win? They could've just started folding once they got near the end of each game and it probably would've gone unnoticed

I hope Phelps gets it done the rest of the races he has. He's probably one of my favorite athletes ever. What he did in 2008...8o Unbelievable. Can't wait to see what he can do. :smokin

The amount of events swimmers compete in is crazy.
I posted this yesterday in the thread about nothing in General.

But I've always wanted to swim, and after watching the heats I got inspired. A few of my friends have been swimming for years and I went with them yesterday to do laps. And I was exhausted after about 100 yards.
I have so much more respect for them now, competing in event after event after event.

Also in terms of greatest Olympian, i don't think you can go by medal count alone. Because look at the list and it's filled with swimmers and gymnasts, they just have more events to compete in compared to other athletes.

Funny you say that I was actually thinking about swimming when I go to the rec now.

Great workout and yeah I fatigued quickly too it's not easy :lol

Wes ~ That's why I don't like naming one person as "the greatest".  You can't compare different sports... and especially with some sports getting more medal opportunities.

I didn't see the whole match, but it was filled with serves hitting the net, players making no-effort, etc.  It was just ugly.  I mean, at least make it look convincing.

its like walking a batter though.. can't blame them if part of game, that's why the rules need to change.

I havent read any of this thread, so maybe it was already addressed. But the TV coverage of this olympics has been horrible. I mean, 8-12 every night? Its on freakin tape delay. Why cant it be from 7-11 or 6-10? Shouldnt networks want kids to watch this? Working people?

And where are the other channels of coverage? I feel like there should be olympics on ALL DAY LONG. Its the FREAKIN OLYMPICS. There are some boring *** events, dont get me wrong.....but put those events on TV at noon on a tuesday for gods sake. I just dont understand the timing of the olympic covereage, and the lack of variety. This happens once every 4 years. People want more.

Or at least I do.
