Even with its superior handling the ft86 will be eating the dust of more powerful competitors as soon as that curve breaks into a straight away.
Compare to what though? The Genesis coupe? 370Z that might be $5k-$7k more? V6 Mustang? If it does, so what?
It isn't always the straight line time, this car isn't made for that. Look at the Porsche Boxster/Cayman, it's regarded as one of the best around to drive and plenty of people has described it as the best sports car they have ever driven. That is a 245hp, $60k car and it isn't going to beat any 370z off the line, heck a 3.5 liter Accord coupe can beat a Cayman in a drag race. This isn't the car for you if you plan to smoke everyone when the stoplight turns green, buy a Camaro if that is what you're looking for. Toyobarus plan is to make this a little Cayman, a car that handles well and is just fun to drive with a decent hp output.
Again, I have no idea why people are expecting a GT-R out of this car and it's price range.
Not expecting a GTR at all.
I dont know why car manufacturers act like its impossible to have both power and handling in the same stock package. I just think they have the potential to produce a car that is truly better than more expensive competition in both handling AND acceleration.
Reliability on older boxters is a complete joke, and IMO the Caymen is one of the most overpriced cars on the market for what you get. Its nothing but a glorified hardtop boxter, virtually unchanged since 1996.
