2014 NBA Draft Thread

The zone is a good point.

but

Your position is about who you can GUARD.

He was horrific at Duke, like a train wreck, Coach K had to go offence-defense with him against MERCER. Tons of blow bys on the perimiter, was in the wrong place a bunch of times on help. He was bad.

That doesn't worry me. A lot of terrible defenders become good over time. Hard to really project how bad a guy is going to be on defense, when he spent the majority of the season playing out of position.

Kyle reminds me of Jalen/Larry Hughes, i dont think he'll be as good though

Yeah no they don't, especially when they lack lateral quickness for the position.

also its easy to judge if you have eyes, you see him switched on to perimeter s guys and get blown by, you see him get taken advantage of by college 4's, its not going to get any easier in the NBA.

You remember Jared Dudley in college, jj reddick, Kyle korver. Countless names of guys who were bad athletes and bad defenders in college that became above average to good defenders in the league.

Defense is not all about being athletic.

1. Those are all below average NBA defenders. :lol

2. they weren't as actively harmful as Jabari was at duke. leaving assignments to get blocks, gambling for steals, lazy rotations, blown rotations.

Dudley while slow, understood his role, was smart, always in the right place, same with JJ he was just small, but he wasn't doing dumb things, and Reddick didn't even play for like 3 years becuase he couldn't guard.

Thats why translating him to the 3 is risky, and worrying, he was in the wrong place, doing dumb things, totally undisciplined.

I lived this with Andrea Bargnani, sometimes if you have no instincts on D its hard to fix. Mike Beasly still can't play good at the 3 of 4 spot and he was a similar type of player in college.

Bargnani has zero defensive instincts. He's not a bad post defender, maybe even a little above average, but he has no clue what to do off ball. He just doesn't understand the concept of help defense.

Jabari is gonna have to learn to play some kind of defense if he's gonna play the 3. What he did in college isn't gonna work guarding the LeBron's and KD's of the world.

aint nobody can guard the lebron and kds of the world :lol
i think he can be an adequate defender and if placed on a team that can "hide" him he will be fine.

Prodigy, we made it.

You're position is not who you guard. This isn't the 50s nba where a 3 guards a 3 all the time. There's this cool new thing called cross matches, and hiding defenders.

It's silly to think that Parker can't be a 3, because he was bad on defense in college.

Also, I'm sure he will become an average defender over time. You can't expect rookies to come in and already be good defenders. Look at Bron, KD etc as rookies. They were bad.

He has some work to do, he will get there. But his offensive talents>>>>>>>>>over any defensive deficiencies. Therefore he will thrive as a 3 in the league.

Who do you guys think are the top 3 potential prospects outside of the big 3?

I'd probably go LaVine, Exum, and Vonleh.

1. So your saying that the bad defense I watched in college, has no bearing on the likelihood of it developing in the pros? So why watch tape then whats the point, we should just evaluate players on hopes and dreams? :lol

2. your position is who you can guard. I don't even understand how im explaining this its basketball 101, if Jabari can't defend threes, you have to put him out there with someone who can, how many PF's can guard the opposing SF on a nightly basis? basically none of them, so he's going to have to defend 4's.

were not talking about a guy switching between both wing spots, were talking about a guy going big to perimeter.

nobody calls, Manu Ginobili, Kyle Anderosn, Boris Dioaw, Lamar Odom James Harden, Lebron James PG's, because they aren't your position is basically who you can guard.

Will randle ever learn to go right?
Also, won't be bullying people anymore like hes done his entire life.
See a lot of charges being called on him his rookie campaign.
Very left-hand dominant but he'll be forced to adapt in the NBA. Also needs to cut down on turnovers and improving his passing ability if/when the double-team comes.

I'm not as worried about Randle adjusting his "bully game." He has finesse aspects to his repertoire.

I'm gonna go with Exum, Randle, and Lavine.

Idk why but I have strange feeling Boston trades their pick + Green/others for Love. Unless the Lakers beat them to it :lol
