Harden and Elite defense should never be used in the same sentence. Period.
However, he's much better defensively than he showed. I actually thought he was a good defender at OKC. He has a very strong upper body and has quick enough feet to be a pretty decent / good defender. He's not in good enough shape to be a #1 option on offense and actually put forth effort on defense right now though.

They see it on the film. They're either asking him to play D & he's ignoring the request because he has no respect for them, or when they see it on film they're not calling Harden out. Either way, it's a coaching issue.
Pop, Doc, Brooks, Stotts, Mark Jackson, Joerger, & Carlisle don't have anybody who consistently don't give any effort on D, but McHale does?
When Harden was under Brooks, he didn't play like that, but under McHale he does?

I'm going to rock with Master Zik's rebuttal. If the only thing that stops Harden from being an elite defender is carrying the offense, then he would've been on all defensive teams when he was on the thunder.
