Yes, a lot of fans are. At least at dominant $23 million per year level.

Why are you putting words in people's mouths. When did he ever say he's giving up on Kobe's ability? We just don't agree with Kobe being paid like a top 5 player when realistically he isn't anymore.

Based off 6 gms coming off a serious injury, kobe isnt a top 5 player anymore?

Outside of LeBron or Melo (which the Lakers still have the cap space to get if they decide to come here) or Love/LMA/Gasol/Rondo next year (which they will still have cap space to get) nobody is making the Lakers a title contender over these next 2 years. The Lances, Lowrys, and others of their ilk are good supplementary pieces after you get a nice core, but the Lakers don't even have a core or foundation right now to start.

As it stands right now, we have $35 mil in salary with 3 guys (Nash, Kobe and Sacre) and approximately $25 mil in cap room with the 9 cap holds. That's enough to sign LBJ or Melo to a full max deal and if they strike out on both of those they'll have just Kobe on the books after next season with around $39 mil in cap room with 11 cap holds assuming they only sign guys to one year deals like they did this year.

Some of us have been resigned to the fact that after Dwight left, this was going to be a 2-3 year rebuilding process and we should be back in form by 2016, maybe 2015 if we land LBJ, but that was a long shot.

When free agency starts the Lakers will have Kobe, Nash, Sacre and hopefully a #7 pick. That's not even a starting lineup let alone a team that is anywhere close to playoff contention.

Dallas is actually a great example, they had all this cap room and struck out on all the big name free agents and haven't been back to true contention since and ended up giving contracts to a lot of team altering guys (Monta, Calderon) I'd rather the Lakers not be turned into a fringe playoff team, either be really bad and get some young talent or be all the way back, that basketball purgatory life is not where it's at.

For the Lakers, the only long term franchise changing type of free agents out there the next 2 summers are Kevin Love and Aldrige and it's still possible to get him

Lebron and Melo would be stopgaps that wouldn't put you in title contention

LeBron doesn't put you in title contention? Say what? But Kevin Love and LMA do? What?

K love & aldridge arent franchise changing players

Lebron combined with what have on their roster doesn't make the Lakers a title contender

Also Lebron isn't going to be Lebron as we know him in 3 years therefore he's not a long term answer. You're going to have to surround him with youth to mask his decencies

Kevin Love is 25, he shouldn't begin to decline for at least 5 years therefore he's a long term free agent

taking a million shots a game and playing James Harden level defense? No that is not top 5.

People make fun of James Harden Kobe was pulling the same stuff, he was basically a DH.

He shot 46% tho & that toronto game automatically made kobe a top 5 player that season

27/6/6 in 81 games, isn't top 5?

Kobe didn't play Harden level bad defense

Not even close

Even with Kobe shooting a "million"shots and not caring about being efficient at all. He was still tied at number 9 in the sacred PER stat.

Kobe meant more to his team then some of guys ahead of him on the list

wait...so...the lakers approach kobe with a number on a slip of paper...and he was supposed to slide the paper back across the table with a response of "Too High, try again"? k

Lol exactly. I love my Lakers but that's some stupid logic. Tim Duncan and Kobe are two different men. The Lakers and spurs are two different organizations. Situations aren't comparable. And absolutely none of you would have turned down Kobe's contract

All valid, but Kobe can't be having pressers calling out management after taking that extension. No sir.

I have no problem w/ a player of Kobe's caliber wanting to cash out.

But it makes no sense for a player of Kobe's caliber to cash out and then talk about doing anything he can to get another championship and calling out management for not making it work.

Teams.

Can't.

Just spend.

However much.

They want.

PERIOD.

So cash out, but know that that cripples your... blah, blah, blah, everyone should already know this.

The Lakers can actually afford the luxury tax because they have a TV deal worth billion dollars

The Spurs can't afford the luxury tax

Miami or Cavs

Anywhere else gonna look suspect :smh:, just hopping from team to team.....big dogs and all timers don't to that.

Staring to think Cleveland is a strong possibility because he loves it there apparently and it would somewhat right his perceived wrongdoings by haters and casual fans.

Who could hold it against him if he returned for redemption to a lesser team at that, it's basically a win win.

And if he somehow brought a chip to that city he would be a certified Mt Rushmore immortal

You could put together an 11-minute video of Kobe's off-ball defense from '12-'13 just like that Harden one.

It's basically a wash, they're both extreme negatives on that end.
