Will Barton has to be 6MOTY right?

Or we still reserving that award for playoff only teams? Lin is the only other candidate. The "super 6th man" is dying (thankfully). I can see Iggy getting it though...

Its going to either crawford or lin, I think. Dont think iggy gets it due to dray and steph's season(s) overshadowing his contributions this year

The award has never went to a player who's team isnt "winning"

Am in agreement though about the super six man dying off though. Am happy about that
The sixth man offensive guard is dying, but the sixth man offensive big man is alive and well!

Jefferson, Whiteside, Monroe, Kanter.

Damn, I wonder when the public percetion of the 6man award will change towards the big man

Thats a pretty credible list right ther. Hadnt even thought of any of those guys for contention of the award

You're on to something. Damn. Didn't even think like that. We've been kid of conditioned to consider that award for guards....but Kanter averaging 12 & 8 on a 50 something win team with 0 starts is definitely 6th man worthy.

Hope Will can win it for the squad. Yeah, that's a really good point.

Yo we damn near typed the same exact train of thought at the same time :lol

I don't think players mind old school if you can actually coach...I don't think Byron Scott can coach.

Subjective. I mean, at the end of the day, the team‘s success is based on the players out there.

PJ, Spo, Mike Brown, Kerr, Walton, Doc rode the talent bus.

Purgatory guys like Thibs, Scottie Brooks had the talent, but not enough to win.

One thing is for sure, coaches are always the scapegoat in most situations.

It makes sense. They can be the hubs of second units and not be as damaging on defense (sans Whiteside).

Someone send this to Pau. This is partly why Pau was benched when D'Antoni was around. But alas...

When they stop picking up fouls and get more exposure. Big guys are notorious for getting into foul trouble and are always seen as less skilled dudes.

Obviously, that‘s not the case.

I really don't understand this Whiteside on the bench thing though. Him and Spoelstra got smoke :lol.

If it wasn't for Whiteside's love if Miami, and DJ Khaled....he'd be good as gone in the offseason.

Whiteside has played great off the bench, it works for well with the rotation.

Whiteside definitely has an argument for 6MOY. Leading the league in blocks -- by a fairly significant margin -- while coming off the bench is pretty impressive. In addition to the other things he does for the 2016 Heatles.

IMO the Whiteside off the bench decision came down from Riley.
They're trying to downplay his worth so when his FA comes around they will try to retain him for the low knowing they prob gotta make room for Dwades salary for at least another year or two ala Kobe's farewell contract.
Riley ain't dumb, trying to show prospective FA that the Heat are all about paying they're players.

Rile's is a snake first chance he gets he will try to dump Bosh to free up the cap space since his health is a major concern going forward.
The whole Bosh deal was a play for the public after Bron bolted to show that they are willing to pay.

Miami and the rest of the league all know white sides is getting the max.

I don't know about all that.
Whiteside is volatile. Temper trantums and all the yapping is never a good look when franchise's are evaluating max level players.
You need to look no further than the Kings to see what happens when you got an emotional diva in the locker room ( Cousins), making the max, and undermining a coach.

I think he's kept himself in check well enough this season that his 12 points, 13 boards and 4 blocks a game is going to far outweigh any perceived character problems with him. Especially if the Heat have a decent playoff run and he plays well. Of course, if he melts down at any point through the remainder of the season and playoffs, it could work against him. But as things stand now, he's looking like a max guy.

Whiteside is getting whatever the hell he asks for. If that happens to be the max then the max he shall receive.

hassan getting maxed out on a bad team spells trouble. i doubt a real contender is even considering him or have the available room financially

Drummond is younger, has no crazy factor, better defender, and isn't the black hole that Hassan is which important to the SVG offense, not mention he's arguably better than Hassan right now and is improving every year.
Whiteside has fixed his free throws, which is a major issue for Drummond right now though.
