Malzahn: 'Working Through Eligibility Issues' With Therezie
13 hours ago
The status of senior Robenson Therezie, who started every game at Auburn's star position last season, is uncertain, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said after Saturday's practice.
"We are working through some eligibility issues right now with him," Malzahn said. "We should know more in the near future. That’s all I’m going to say about that."
Malzahn said Therezie would be missed if he doesn't play in the season-opener against Arkansas, but he said coaches have ample confidence in senior Justin Garrett.
"Obviously, he’s a returning starter," Malzahn said, "but the good thing is Justin Garrett was the starter before he got hurt and he was the MVP of our spring before."
Malzahn said sophomore cornerback T.J. Davis is working at star, along with sophomoreMackenro Alexander and freshman Nick Ruffin.
"We are using some traditional linebackers," Malzahn said. "We have numerous guys that are in the mix in different packages."
Therezie, a second-team preseason All-SEC selection, led the Tigers with four interceptions last season. He was in on 56 tackles. He moved into the lineup when Garrett suffered a foot injury in preseason camp and eventually took a redshirt season.
