It honestly isn't a bad idea to sign these guys, pay half a season salary and then flip them for prospects
I don't know why anyone would sign with the A's like that or the Astros a few years ago

It's a good deal for the player too... There's a good chance they'll be playing meaningful baseball in August and September, whether it be on the A's or wherever he gets traded...

The "guaranteed" spot and also pitching in the Coliseum probably will benefit him getting a bigger contract the next year around.

Outside of the NBA playoffs is there anything more drawn out than the MLB Awards?
It's almost Thanksgiving. Want to say who's the idiot that said "how about we start handing out awards in mid November and do one award per day". But it took more idiots to say "that's a great idea, let's roll with that"

Greinke robbed. Dominated from his 1st start till his last start. Didn't know they renamed the award to the 3 month Cy Young. What a joke.

great season, dominant last two months, but Kershaw and Greinke deserved it more. Don't see why either one should cancel each other out when they were the two best pitchers in the NL.

I don't know why you think that Matheny getting robbed is laughable. I hope you are trying to separate yourself from being a Cubs fan and a baseball fan when you make statements like that. Maddon won with one of the top up and coming teams in the league, equipped with two ace pitchers. Did he do a great job of making it work? Absolutely. But his lineup was loaded with HUGE prospects from top to bottom. Rarely any injuries or obstacles to overcome. Grienke and Kershaw cancelled each other out, it's been known that was gonna happen for months.
For Matheny I just don't get it. He lost his ace the entire season, lost his #3 hitter for most of the season, lost his starting 1B for most of the season, lost his 8th inning set up guy for most of the season, lost his starting CF for chunks of the season, lost numerous bench guys for chunks of the season, lost numerous pieces in the rotation for chunks of the season, lost other parts of the bullpen for chunks of the season. Meanwhile he kept MANAGING and mixing and matching different pieces to then expose guys like Stephen Piscotty, Tommy Pham, Greg Garcia, Brandon Moss, Mark Reynolds, etc. With all of that said he lead his team to 100 victories (most in baseball) in the hardest division in the MLB.
If that is not the definition of manager of the year, I don't know what is.
I actually did think Bryant deserved it, thank you. But IMO, neither Maddon or Arrieta were the most deserving.
