2016 Official NBA Off-Season Thread: Former Greatness

No guarantee you get a player in free agency especially a team like Miami that will be at the cap and have to trade players just to make room.

Yeah that was the 2nd part of my point... But if there's no gaurantee he stays is it worth it to trade for that 1 year?

I don't really see a situation that makes 100% sense for Russ to leave to

Until next summer when all the moving pieces are in play. Would like to see him and AD team up in NO's

what's gonna happen with KD's joint in OKC downtown?

I actually think if OKC sits on its hands and waits till next summer, Russ will sign a max contract with them. The prospect of his own team that he's intimately familiar with would be too much to turn down imo

I have that same feeling as well.

Definitely assuming he is willing to sign long term. And i think Miami is realistic for him to do that. Winning culture and a great city.

Lakers gotta play it out with the young guys and coach. Deangelo and randle ain't enough either.

The Lakers can wait until the offseason, but there's no guarantee that with whatever new parameters come with the new CBA or likely a lockout, that Russ will be available just to sign on. Ideally it's the smart move to just wait it out, but seeing as how they've screwed up in free agency, I don't even know if I want it to get to that point where they have to sell Russ on LA.

I'd ideally wait until closer to the trade deadline if possible where OKC has to get something but you don't have to give up as much. I personally just want to keep Ingram at all costs, everybody else can go.

If you're the lakers, you either trade to get him then hope he resigns or wait and see if they can get him as a straight up FA

The difference will be the roster having less talent because they traded it away in the first scenario. and if he doesn't sign as an FA, they're even worse off having given up some pieces for a 1 year rental that won't get them anywhere.

imo OKC has to trade him and start over. Nobody is coming to OKC to help Russ if he stays

Spurs also - lowkey, as always - got better. They showed they can take down super-teams before (except OKC which was their Achilles heel), so GS coming out of the west ain't a guarantee at all, much less winning the title.

Spurs?

I'd put Clippers and Memphis for sure ahead of them in the taking out GSW department.

This is the thing though, next season is the last year Randle's deal is an asset after that he's going into max territory. The 2 best pieces are D'Lo and Ingram, with my preference of Ingram being the all-star caliber player. Clarkson and Randle are replaceable type pieces, but the Lakers did screw themselves on next summer by signing Moz and Deng to longer deals beyond this year. Cause the loss of Randle, Clarkson and D'Lo in this scenario could be mitigated if Russ and Ingram are there and they had space to offer another max deal to say Blake Griffin next summer, but that possibility is no longer in play, so it's best to hope he just chooses us in the offseason.

Parker, Manu and Duncan all a year older

Pau is nice, at the cost of losing Diaw.. and then West bolted as well

I don't think they're really that much better than last year if at all

Duncan wasn't productive anyway, and Gasol would be taking over most of those minutes. Leonard should also get better, while Aldridge should still put up numbers. I mean, even if they got marginally better that's still a 67 win team from this season

Just based on salaries, the trade would have to go something like this. This basically amounts to Russ bolting just like Dwight, and them building around Ingram and Nance. Yikes.

Ehhhhh, GSW would run them out the gym just like OKC did last year

How's the lakers cap space looking as of right now for next summer?
60 mil this year and they get moz and Deng :{. I loved Deng being a Bulls fan and all but 4 years is a long time.

Depending on what the cap is next summer I think it's at 32 or 35. So right on the cusp of 1 max deal I think Russ' salary starts at 34 or 36. Honestly they could just cut Nick Young or move Lou who's making peanuts and get under the number.

The bonus of waiting is that we'll still likely be a bottom 3 team this season and could get another top 3 pick in a loaded draft that will make it a lot easier to move/keep some of the young core.

Always been fake tough.

You read that article with a smile, didn't you:p

It didn't do KD any favors, that's for damn sure. Makes him look like a "cry baby"

But there was always concern of Durant being persuaded -- that outside forces would sway him. Those close to him talk about how he's impressionable and impulsive, and the moment Durant agreed to meetings in the Hamptons, his future hung in the balance. In reality, he had one foot out the door.

makes him sound mentally weak af. As a grown man, you aint tryna be considered impressionable. You want to leave the impression. Son like a teenager. But you 27.

The first time I read it I had to quit.
I didn't like the way they were painting this man.
Of course I went back and finished reading it and no lie the only feeling I had was sadness for KD thinking how this must make him feel as a man, when he reads it.

I hope he doesn't take it to heart, true or not, it's just words, it's up to him to change or leave a new impression, now, because the articles are leaving a bad one for him thus far

And OKC doesn't have to trade only Russ.

They have pieces to send with him. Makes it a mot more enticing. yes or yes?

Like who Adams, I'd give up the entire team sans Ingram for Russ and gold toof.
