Because you price out you competition. Lacob has that silicon valley, venture capital dough. Dude has a license to print money and no incentive to save it. He is more than willing to spend. He's betting on the fact the other owners are not. If you're known as the guy that cuts the checks and builds powerhouses, the big FA's will want to come to you instead of the cheapskates.

It would depend on how big the emblem is. If it's a small patch near the shoulder I'd say that's expensive. If it's pretty large and clear to read it's a bargain.
