I can respect these takes. However if I could get a 2BR/2BA condo in the Northeast (Philly or DC) for $1MM or a McMansion in ATL, Charlotte, St. Louis, etc for the same price or cheaper, I’m choosing the condo in DC.
Because of the money, power and prestige, I also feel that it attracts more diversity because so many people are chasing those. I do a lot of work in Charleston, SC and i was there for five days earlier this year and I could count the number of black folks I saw on one hand. I was shocked.
Hey, like I said all things being equal I'd rather live in DC, LA or NY. if you have a million dollars to spend on a house then by all means by your house in any area of the country the issue is that very few people have a million dollars to spend on a house most people have less than half that actually.
The thing is, in Atlanta or Houston you could pay $300,000 or $400,000 for a house and bank the other $700 or $600,000 or save that for retirement, college for your kids, side businesses, real estate or stock market investing, etc.
Where I'm at, people are putting down payments of $100,000 to $200,00p for a home. Most young people don't have that kind of money saved up.
