I can respect these takes. However if I could get a 2BR/2BA condo in the Northeast (Philly or DC) for $1MM or a McMansion in ATL, Charlotte, St. Louis, etc for the same price or cheaper, I’m choosing the condo in DC.

Because of the money, power and prestige, I also feel that it attracts more diversity because so many people are chasing those. I do a lot of work in Charleston, SC and i was there for five days earlier this year and I could count the number of black folks I saw on one hand. I was shocked.
This plus in 20 years that $1 million condo in DC will be worth more than a McMansion in ATL or Charlotte.

I live in Dallas. We got good schools, enough diversity in the suburbs, I have a great barber; cost of living is good. Are there some backwards racist? Of course, but that’s going to be everywhere. I can’t speak for non metropolitans but Texas is where it’s at

Not in Essex or Bergen County you can't.
My friend actually just copped a 400k crib in Bergen county. I live in Bergen and I’m doing ok. All of Bergen and Essex county isn’t super expensive. Newark actually has brand new high rise buildings downtown that are affordable.

I was literally buying a house in Norcross, GA outside ATL with my wife last year and about to get a new job there. Nice size crib, 4 bedroom for what I pay for a 2 bdrm condo here in a suburb outside Detroit. Then she got pregnant, we had our first child and I stayed at my job here and got my coaching gig. Did not want to move away with a new born and not a ton of security. Plus, her mother is our nanny and that played a huge role.

I'd love to get out west or south, once little man gets a lil older maybe.

Yeah... But it's Newark... And the key word is 400k crib. 60k isn't getting you a 400k house unless you want to resign to being house poor for the rest of your life.

Dudes act like they can’t find somewhat affordable places to live in Cali, or NY and NJ area. You can find affordable housing in those areas you just gotta look. You can live comfortably making 60k a year living in those areas.

You know how much ****** roach infested one bedroom apartments go for in the South Bronx ? $1,200 at least. You not living "comfortable" in the worst parts of NYC making 60K a year. I'm in Atlanta right now and I hate it I'm itching to come back but before I can even entertain that I gotta save up at least 25 racks

If two people make 60k you can do ok. I wouldn’t mind living in Newark. My homie lives there and his apartment looks like Ghost from Powers crib. He’s only paying 1500 a month. I wouldn’t live in Essex though. I like Bergen and Passaic County.

I wouldn’t live in the Bronx or NYC it’s overpriced. I’d live in Long Island or upstate NY before I’d live in the City.

Don't get me wrong, you can make ends meet and find a somewhat decent place in those cities. But like I mentioned,$3,000 a month in the Bay Area suburbs gets me a 1500 square foot three-bedroom house whereas $3,000 a month in Atlanta gets me two houses or one gigantic house.

Not to mention most people don't just want to live, I'd like to be able to have a nice house, save money for retirement, I don't want to be house poor just to say I live in New York or LA or San Francisco. All those areas are great, but unless you're bringing in big money I wouldn't advise it.
Really depends what you are looking for. I agree NY is mostly just TOO expensive. But square footage ain't the only thing that matters. $3000 a month will actually give you a lot of options in NYC though. But the bay is crazy

Only way I’d live in NYC is if I hit the lottery. Your money stretches longer in jersey plus you get nice stuff and the schools are better.

That's true. I'm trying to stop renting though it's a waste of money at this point to me.

Living in North Jersey is miles better than actually living in NYC. The cost difference isn't worth the 30 minutes it takes to get to NYC
