2020-21 NBA Offseason thread: Officially a wrap

Philly wasn’t a real series but Tatum was actually over 6 assists against Toronto & Miami. Made me feel bad for calling him Melo when he was coming out of Duke.

Small sample size sure, but flashing that ability against the leagues best teams is huge IMO. He’s primed to take another step.

The jump he made from FIBA to the playoffs was huge. Maybe Jaylen figures out how to pass next

I think Stevens was infatuated with Teague in like 2015. When he was in his prime. That's when those quotes are from anyways. I doubt he expects that level of play 5-6 years later. He's probably just a 15-20 minute back up, occasional starter and vet presence now.
Probably dates back to when Stevens was at Butler and Teague was in HS in Indiana.

I don't think I've ever seen so much energy focused on a backup guard making the league minimum. There's basically no expectations. And he's going to be playing on a much better team than the awful Hawks and Wolves. The Celtics backup point guard averaged 7 and 3 last year in the regular season and 5 and 2 in the playoffs. Nobody is expecting anything different from Teague.

You legit said he's not the player he was at Wake and his first run with Atlanta. No ****
I called Teague semi-washed and you felt the pressing need to defend him. Then selectively handpicked his Minny numbers when frshstunna frshstunna and I are telling you how bad Jeff was in ATL.

Teague is going to play 20-25 MPG while Kemba out and probably even start some. That's not just a "backup guard...with no expectations." My point about Wake and first ATL run is that Brad seems to have a lingering attachment to Jeff from those prime years, as if the 32-year-old version in 2021 is even a shell of that.

ainge can make it all right by bringing IT bacc

The whole city wants him back and he wants to come back. I get it. He wants to rekindle what was the best stretch of his career. He's sounding like Uncle Rico right now though.

"I'm healthy (again) and ready to go and contribute and win."

I really hope he gets an opportunity regardless. With the Celtics or whoever.

what makes you come to that conclusion? That Brad is attached/infatuated with Teague currently?

Have you seen the market? Who did you want them to sign? Van Vleet?

Ainge doing Ainge things what else is new

Also i vividly remember people saying the Lakers couldn't win anything due to their backup guards last season..... But Teague having to play a big role is just fine

Gotta love NT

It's hard to make a trade happen when there's a 3rd team over paying.

If all that was enough for Ainge, free agency opened and they were ready to go forward it doesn't matter. Because MJ woke up from a drunken gambling binge and threw $120M at the Brady Bunch.

Indiana and Boston weren't entertaining that amount of $. So a deal literally couldn't have been done.

Why is that hard for people to understand?

I feel like RustyShackleford RustyShackleford talking to Dwalk in the politics thread.

Pritchard's damage control has been pretty funny throughout all this. He wasn't willing to pay Hayward what Charlotte was and conveniently leaves that out of everything he says, instead focusing on what he was or wasn't willing to give up on a trade. Trade didn't happen because Prichard wouldn't pay up. Now he's stuck with a big man that he very publicly tried to trade.

It all depends on who you decide to believe in all of this ....

Boston fans will believe this is damage control on Indiana's part
Everyone else will believe that Danny Ain't dropped the ball again

Hayward was looking for an extension yes but at the same time he still had a Player Option that he very likely would've opted into had the Indiana trade been agreed upon.

WPG very likely didn't want to get the IT2 treatment where he opted in and was left to be traded wherever Danny Ain't saw fit.

So we're supposed to believe Danny Ainge who's notorious for overvaluing his assets and always trying to get over on some other team cause he finessed Billy King that ONE time, didn't overplay his hand again? I got some beachfront in Idaho to sell you. There's 3 guys that walked away for nothing really. That's what any semi intelligent human would call a trend.

We've had at least 3 almost had ems in the last 3 weeks.

I trust the Indy Star about as much as I trust the Boston Globe, which is not at all really.

Neither the Pacers nor the Celtics need to save face for not willing too shell out $120M, which is a massive overpay.

Gordon took the money. It's that simple. Him and the rest of the league should all be laughing at the Hornets. Celtics get their huge TPE and TT instead of Myles Turner (who would've hard capped them) and a 1st rounder which would probably be in the 15-30 range. That's not "nothing."

The opt in decision probably lasted as long as it did because he knew there was a big offer chillin. $120M > $34.5M especially when you factor in that he's an injury risk. He wasn't seeing that from Indy or Boston. Dude waits until the eleventh hour to do everything. He knew there was a bag. That's why he opted out.

Ever stop to think about why we haven’t seen anything about Indy saying they were willing to match the contract that Charlotte gave? Or is that too difficult of a concept?

12 and 7 at $18M per for the next 3yrs and a 1st rounder > 12 and 10 at $9.5M per for 2yrs and a $28.5M TPE?

At the very worst it's a wash.

Exactly how was Indiana supposed to give WPG $120 million when Danny Ain't wouldn't agree on the trade?

Charlotte was able to give WPG that money because they had the cap space.

The celtics aren't gonna do anything with the tpe until the offseason because they're trying to avoid the repeater tax. Not because ainge loves this roster with no real point guards going into the season. Lol
