2020-21 NBA Offseason thread: Officially a wrap

Never liked the idea of a player picking and choosing when to play. The most important ability will always be availability . Kawhi looked rough during the latter part of his last two playoff runs

January was already a stretch according to Silver, so xmas just is a pipe dream unless it's just a few teams and then a gap of 10 days or something until the season starts.

But I will say that all my guys who ball expressed some anguish over there being no Christmas games for the first time in forever. So if the NBA has gotten additional feedback that people really want those games, perhaps they are trying to figure a way to hold just those games. Gonna be an interesting few weeks while they try to hash it all out.

Kawhi isnt and never will be in Prime LeBron and Prime KD’s level
Not sure this is really a knock against him

One is the 2nd best player ever and the other is probably in or around the top 10.

Non FigVision version...

And to think that people ACTUALLY PAY to see content on the Athletic!

LMAO! Couldn't be me!

Calling him best in the world despite him not even being close to them as a player and not being able to do it day in and day out

We getting that K (LOL) slander in today? Y'all was ready to put that mans in the top 25 (some ppl uttered top 10) all time after only being elite for 3 seasons and the presumption he'd get a 3rd ring/FMVP. Where does he fall after that choke job in this year's playoffs?
It's even worse than that. Cowherd literally had a segment where he said Kawhi would be in his top five if the clippers won this season.

Kawhi is the ultimate example of "Ringz" culture. I totally understand putting a premium on playoff performance but Kawai takes it to another level. I'm not going to reward players for literally not showing up during the 82 game regular season and only showing up in the playoffs. The all-time greats do both. Kobe, LeBron, Jordan, Magic, Kareem or all-time greats because of their consistency. They're giving you great performances all regular season and even better performances in the playoffs. Kawhi ain't built like that.

To put things in perspective, it's unlikely that Kawhi is it top 100 scorer by the end of his career yet people want to prop him up as a top 25, top 10 or even top 5 player?

Think Kawhi was probably elevated too highly after the title run with the Raptors, but may now be getting downgraded too much based on the bubble flame-out.

He’s not a perfect player, but he’s really, really good. The Clippers were an overachieving 8 seed the year before he got there. With him they got to the 2 seed for the first time ever with most of the same guys, despite load management and PG missing 1/3 of the season. Kawhi was the main reason why they were as good as they were.

The playoff choke was a collective effort.

Trying to understand where you're going with this. Are you saying Bron and KD are currently in their primes? If not, why are you comparing current Kawhi to non-current versions of those guys?

This is what made the Clippers losing so great. It forced the NBA intelligencia to reevaluate Kawhi and put his accomplishments into the proper context. He's a very good regular season performer (He's really only played three or four healthy season and had one all-time great playoff run but it's laughable to think that he's even a top 20 player, much less top 10.

Trade worked out well for both. AD wanted out and wasn't going to resign. Won a ring and is going to resign and they were able to retain Kyle Tatum. Pels got a legit all-star, role players and 3 1st rounders. Doubt either side is complaining.

quit playin yourself, its sad

Lakers got one of the best damn versitile bigs of all time
Got a Chip the first year
And will more than likely re-sign to be a cornerstone player

meanwhile the Pelicans got
josh hart - a below average 3 and D player who cares more about fortnite
lonzo - lol
ingram - eh, just another one on one player who cant create for his team (FGA are up FG% down), just takes more touches away from zion if you ask me
picks - and I dont care about those future draft picks and you dont know who the hell they even are LOL

Pelicans got the easiest most cupcake schedule to get in the playoffs cus the NBA wanted them to be in so BADLY and they still failed, LET THAT SINK IN.

Rob Pelinka and the Lakers fleeced the hell out of the Pelicans, stop telling yourself the Pelicans are happy right now lol

So essentially the deeper the playoff run you had last season, the more screwed you are for this upcoming season 🤦🏿‍♂️. The Lakers and Heat are going to be at a real disadvantage against teams who've been hanging out since March

I honestly dont know how KD will look moving forward but he was in no way better than the both of them previously . he was being called best in the world while picking and chlosing games. Im comparing them when Kawhi was elevated ever since he was getting MVP votes.

He cant be the best if he cant match the output of those two and cant match their availability.
