The problem is the rebuild never works for the Knicks so they try other ways like trades and free agency that don't work out..every year they tanked they never got the #1 pick, miss out on better guys drafted before their pick or just draft lottery busts like Knox and Frank...I think they were committed to the rebuild but once they hired thibs that was the end of the rebuild... that and Dolan in general sucks as a owner

Yes, you can't commit to a rebuild and hire a coach like Thibs at the same time.

You also can't be in the lottery giving away players like Jamal Murray. Knicks drafted in the lottery like 5 years straight, just being it don't count, tanking alone ain't enough. There needs to be a plan with draft picks and actual implementation of said plans.

It’s really hard to play the “what if” draft picks game with the Knicks because they’re considerably worse at player development and player management than even drafting

Is there a new rule where all teams have the same lottery odds?

Significantly harder to get the first pick since they flattened the odds. You could lose 82 games and essentially have a coin flip's chance at picking fifth.

I do agree that the Knicks should have bottomed out but for every Pistons or Pelicans there's the Magic or Kings. There's no proven, perfect way to build a team.

Out of the 4 major sports its difficult to win in the NBA and you need some luck on your side... It's difficult to get the #1 pick even if you are the worst in the league... you don't always need the #1 pick but it helps a lot especially if there generational talent like magic, Duncan, hakeem etc...another unique thing about the NBA is winning relies heavy on superstars on your team... you either get them through the draft, free agency or trades...then once you get those said superstars you have to build around them correctly and if not they will bounce...Very rarely will you have teams win without a superstar... only one I can think of is 04 pistons... there could be more though

Speaking of Lottery odds ... I'm gonna need Houston and Orlando to race to the bottom one more year and let my guys Mose and Silas split Scoot and Wembanyama

This isn’t true, the data actually says the Knicks are the honestly fairly good at drafting and developing players later in the draft (David Lee, Wilson chandler, Mitchell Robinson, quickly, Nate Robinson etc.).

The Knicks are very bad at drafting useful players in the later lottery.

The Lnicks biggest issue is they are always just chasing the 8th seed instead of tanking and just bottoming out to make their lives easier and get a top 3 selection.

Who is the playmaker who will also play hard-nosed defense that you'd like to sign/acquire/draft?

Not suggesting there's an alternative player in the market who's a better option than JB. I'm saying, maybe the Knicks should hold off, and wait till the right player becomes available.

It doesn't make sense (for me at least) to make a move, just to make a move. There seems to be a lot of effort required for the Knicks to just sign Jalen Brunson. Usually, you go through this kind of trouble moving players around for a guy who will put in title contention. Adding Jalen Brunson IMO would make the Knicks a play-in team.

The juice doesn't seem to be worth the squeeze.

They’ve definitely made some good later round picks, hell throw Ariza and Landry Fields in there. And Gallinari and KP were both pretty good lottery picks. Idk if there’s a single one of those guys where you could argue they maximized the asset once he was on the team though.

Even Mitchell Robinson, who was a great pick…. His development track sucks right now. Most of the guys who went on to have long careers we traded away in gambles with mixed results. Blah

First of all the Kings are just stupid. They’ve had the top picks but they’ve just made bad choices. They could have literally drafted Luka.

Second. Odds changed but pick 5 is still good enough. If that happens, then tank and try again next year.

Tanking is 3-4 year process.

I don’t think the Knicks necessarily have to get the #1 pick to rebuild. There were some pretty good building blocks available that they’ve passed on for lesser players.

2017 - Frank NT over Mitchell, Adebayo, Allen
2018 - Knox over Mikal, Miles, Shai, MPJR,
2019 - Barret over Garland
2020 - Toppin over Haliburton and Maxey

No team is going to hit on every pick, but it’s hard to rebuild when you’re missing on talent like that year after year. I’m rooting for them to get it together. The NBA would be better with a Nets/Knicks rivalry.

That’s the beauty of “tanking”. You can get your guy and still be bad enough to get one or two more.

I’d bet good money that OKC struck gold with at least ONE of those recent picks.

Nah. Knicks just have bad luck or no picks.

Name me a team that never moved up once (only moved down or stayed in same position) for 30 years in a row.

We also had a franchise record worst season ever and worst record in the league got the #3 pick (RJ) ina draft with Zion and Ja.

The draft is all about percentages and the percentages never work in our favor. Bad luck.

Right. I don’t know why we’re stuck on the #1 pick for some reason. OKC “lucked” into A trio of stars without ever having a #1 pick and may be on the verge of doing it again.
