Free Mason plate jk.. Its supposed to be the Flight Speed shank/plate which is meant to react with the zoom unit to give you more of a spring from the pressure placed on the shank and zoom units. This was their new tech featured in the 31s.

Hard to lace? Not familiar at all with the 12s except I think I heard they were hell to lace up
