bolt’s world records are from almost 15 years ago now…. Michael Johnson was over 25 years ago, keeping it to track

Marketing Jordan and the 90’s basketball to ridiculous levels

the cowboys and jerruh are literally living off of super bowls won during the same period

the Beijing Olympics with Phelps and bolt was 15 years ago

Lebron, himself, was drafted 20 years ago

No one running around claiming Troy Aikman is better than todays QB’s.

troy aikman has never made an all pro team, only some cowboys fans would be so delusional

‘99 rams was over 20 years ago and their greatness is still very appreciated especially the things Faulk did.. could only imagine him with the rule changes

or a QB like Steve young with the rules changed to protect the QB

No one would say Steve Young is a better QB than Mahomes though

Only in basketball are players from the past (specifically the 90’s) given this extra boost to their legacy because of the era they played in.

the only person people say is better than mahomes, is Brady

Brady won his first Super Bowl over 20 years ago

I would disagree, in football outside QBs were praise RBs, WRs, OLineman and every position on defense for being better in the 90s-early 00s as being better than today

Jerry Rice, TO, Moss, Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Ed Reed, Troy P, Deion Sanders, Orlando Pace, both LT (Taylor & Tomlinson), Reggie White.. the list could go on

Amin has some good points here, but Stan and Jeff are both on point when they talk about load management. Where families save up to see players and out of the blue they have a game off. Remember that game where the Spurs and Warriors sat all their starters and a kid of affluent parents got some swag and picture with Curry. VanGundy, hit the nail on the head, that's nice and all but what about the family in the nosebleeds and that's the best tickets they could afford? What did that kid get?

The way Amin makes it sounds is that the NBA is good with players sitting and VanGundy was out of pocket to even speak on it.

We do it in all sports.. hell, do it other things as well

but we get that the rules and generally being smarter have changed in football which would have been huge for certain guys.. like Steve young.. But imagine a guy like Jerry rice not having to worry about LBs and safeties trying take off his head if he went over the middle or being able to knock the crap out of you with ball in the air prior to the catch

but listening to rap now makes me appreciate rap from the late 80s, 90s and 2000s more

same with movies with practical effects.. or being forced to work around limitations, think jaws

that doesnt mean I don’t appreciate what is happening now.. but I do get how great pre vitamin S Barry bonds was

but a perfect example is a guy like rod woodson, who was the safety on that all time ravens defense after his great years with the Steelers.. think of that level of versatility with the speed he had in today’s league

or a guy like Reggie white with all his size being able to play both DE and DT in more pass rushing opportunities

IMO while Nike certainly plays a part in the new vs. old debate, the single most contributing factor in this entire thing is the ESPN/national media and LeBron James. We would not be sitting here doing this without what happened there. LeBron was not able to legally buy beer yet and the public was blasted with ridiculous "LeBron vs. Jordan" talk. You continue that storyline for decades and this is what results, older gen gets annoyed and tired and instead of appreciating LeBron as possibly the second greatest player ever we instead have to first revert to "No he aint better than Mike." And the convo has evolved to the second greatest player ever is now a loser. What sense does that even make?

So...we get so used to this debate junk it's now all we do, which in turn makes a large portion roboticly go against any new players. Throw in a little Inside the NBA studio throwing bombs and boom we have exactly what we have - the basketball crowd "_____'s on the current product."
