Ray Lewis to join Fox and FS1 as NFL analyst
After a three-year stint on ESPN, former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis will now be a Fox Sports/FS1 NFL analyst. The official announcement was made on Undisputed but was reported earlier by Mike McCarthy of The Sporting News.
According to Fox, Lewis will be seen on various FS1 studio shows such as Undisputed, The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Speak for Yourself as well as the upcoming morning show co-hosted by Cris Carter and Nick Wright that will premiere in September.
Karl Ravech signs new contract extension with ESPN
One of ESPN’s MLB mainstays, Karl Ravech, has reached an agreement on a contract extension. It means that Ravech will not only remain with the company, but he’ll also expand his role on baseball and on college basketball as well. He’ll take over the play-by-play duties for the MLB Home Run Derby, a role that had been Chris Berman’s for many years.
Former MLB Network analyst Mitch Williams awarded more than $1.5 million in wrongful termination suit
Three years after being fired by MLB Network for his alleged conduct at his 10-year-old son’s baseball game, Mitch Williams has been awarded $1.5 million in a wrong termination lawsuit.
This saga began in May 2014, when Deadspin reported that Williams, then an MLB Network analyst, had been ejected from a Cal Ripken League game for arguing with the umpire, heckling opposing coaches and calling a 10-year-old a “*****.” Williams apologized on Twitter for his conduct and took a leave of absence from MLB Network. Then that September, Williams announced he was suing the network for wrongful termination and Deadspin for defamation.
On Tuesday, a jury in Camden, New Jersey decided in Williams’ favor, awarding him a hefty figure—$1,565,33, to be exact—for his troubles.
Williams’ lawsuit against Deadspin ended when Gawker Media reportedly settled for $125,000 after the company declared bankruptcy.

Adrian Wojnarowski will reportedly start at ESPN July 1, just in time for NBA free agency
After months of speculation and anticipation, Woj will officially begin at ESPN on July 1, the first day of NBA free agency, according to Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch.
Woj will essentially replace his rival Marc Stein, who was part of the ESPN layoffs in April but has continued working for the Worldwide Leader since, bridging the gap to Woj’s arrival.
Deitsch reports that some of Woj’s staff from The Vertical will follow him to ESPN, as Recode initially reported, but that the details have not been fully ironed out.
How long is Dan on vacation for?
Mark Schlereth leaves ESPN for FS1
Mark Schlereth, one of the few non-star players to become fixtures at ESPN, has left the network after 16 years. As noted by Michael McCarthy of SportingNews.com, Schlereth has joined FS1.
Per McCarthy, Schlereth has a close relationship with recently-ousted FOX Sports chief Jamie Horowitz, and the move had been in the works for months.
Schlereth made his debut on FS1’s Undisputed. His role isn’t clear, but he will presumably be a contributor to the various FS1 studio shows.
Report: Katie Nolan likely jumping to ESPN, and possibly soon if Fox lets her out of her contract
Awful Announcing
Months after we learned that FS1 would not renew Katie Nolan’s Garbage Time, it looks like the Emmy-winning host might soon leave Fox for its biggest competitor.
According to sports media reporter Jim Miller, Nolan will likely jump to ESPN—either imminently, or when her contract at Fox runs up at the end of the year.
If Nolan in fact goes to ESPN she could fit in a number of roles, potentially alongside Mike Greenberg on his new morning show, which will debut this coming January. She’s had success, particularly with young viewers, in a variety of formats, so there’s little question ESPN can build a show, or at least part of one, around her. It makes perfect sense that ESPN would want Nolan onboard, and it increasingly makes sense that she might want a change of scenery.
John Ourand says Jamie Horowitz FOX firing may not be last
Quote from Ourand on his most recent podcast: "What I have been told is that the (sexual harassment) probe didn't end with Jamie. It is ongoing and there is a real potential that other people are going to be caught up in that web."
There won’t be any Cialis or Viagra ads on the NFL this season
Once a staple on television, Advertising Age is reporting that the owners of Cialis and Viagra, Eli Lilly and Pfizer will be pulling out of the NFL. Both pharmaceuticals totaled for more than $50 million on NFL advertising last season and that leaves a rather gaping hole in the networks coffers.
"Nearly 20 years after the FDA first approved its use as an ED remedy, Pfizer’s Viagra is losing its patent exclusivity, and that’s a bitter pill to swallow for the TV business. Viagra hasn’t aired a national TV advertisement since May 15, and network ad sales executives said the brand is unlikely to resurface, having sat out the 2017-18 upfront bazaar."
Undisputed with Skip Bayless had a 0.0 rating in 20 U.S. markets for in the recently completed second quarter (Apri, May, June).
Erectile dysfunction ads have been airing on NFL games dating back to 2004
