Anyone on NT into writing movie scripts?

thats where you're wrong sir.

dexter is a serial killer acting on his own.

think 'collaterall' meets 'the proffesional'.
Guy kills bad people. Dexter bro
He gets hired to assassinate people, he does not look to kill people. Dexter kills serial killers...and only serial killers.

This assassin is in theory able to kill anyone who he is hired to kill, however he does not always end up killing the target because of a moral conundrum.

Very different from dexter.

He can just get under the mark's legs and trip them up.

Hopefully they fall and bonk their head really hard.

Whoever reccomended Celtx knows. Great and easy program to learn for formatting your screenplay.

I KNEW I created two threads that were the same. :{

A lot of good info was posted in here. I finally took heed to the advice given and began reading up on screenwriting. I started on one in celtx but decided to let it sit for a whole because the idea isn't truly developed.

I'm definitely interested in collaborating with anyone that wants to. Hit me with a PM or we can use this thread as a way to communicate/pitch ideas.

yeah I've done some scriptwriting made a few, but honestly its about inspiration and story if you got one. the hardest part is just coming up with a log line and premise or story to start with. a Log line is 1 sentence that sums up the film. a premise is "something that leads to something". also celtx is good but I've heard in Hollywood they only accept Final Draft. it's another free program that you can use to write your script. real easy.

Ill use Coming to America as an example
Premise: Distant Travel leads to True Love
Log Line: An african prince travels to New York in search of love

This guys a clown. You posted the same thing on pg. 2 a whopping 7 months ago.

I'll be keeping an eye on the thread, for sure. I'd love to write a script eventually.

Write down your ideas man. I've got a bunch of them written on my iPhone's note app. Inspiration hits me all the time and I'll just write them down.

Here's one I was tinkering with as a joke back when I first made this thread

Vampire GREASE - the 70's classic gets a bloody twist... :lol

If you've started one idea but don't feel like it's all there... I say just keep writing. I've read plenty of times how easy it is to start an idea, get 30 pages in, then give up and you end up with a half dozen partial screenplays. It's important to finish at least one so you can say you've actually completed one, plus you need to get the experience of pushing through writer's block, figuring out how to fix issues in your script, and of course... rewriting. Writing is rewriting.

Obviously don't kill yourself over a half baked idea that goes nowhere, but I say keep pushing through that first idea and see where it takes you. You'll see where you're weak, what you might do well, and the idea might suddenly click one day while you're working at it. I was procrastinating on my first one for awhile, then I started planning out the scenes with notecards (as suggested in Save the Cat) and it all started to click. I found the bigger picture kind of stuff to come easier.. the outlining, the turns and act breaks, the themes, etc., but my dialogue was terrible. So that was a good experience to see where I struggled and how to improve.

I think the thing I struggle with the most is seeing the best way to end my stories. I have act 1 and 2 thought out, but I have multiple endings, where each one seems better than the one before it.

Like people have advised me to do, read a book on writing. There's also a ton of helpful information on the web. A simple google search for "writing screenplays" will definitely be useful. Download Celtx. It's free and has the formatting already programmed.

A few of us have noted that we're willing to collaborate on ideas. When you read enough articles online, you'll realize just how difficult it can be to break into the industry. But the. There are articles about guys who wrote their first script and got it sold for six figures. It's definitely not an easy job to get in to, but like any industry, it takes dedication if you really want it. Good luck famb.

Anybody want to share ideas feel free to hit my pm's. I'm in film school at the moment and I want to get into writing scripts soon.

I think what has so many folks on edge about sharing ideas is the thought of someone running off with it and making a fortune off of it. The industry is already hard to break in to. Most people guard their ideas like its a prized fortune.

Some honor system needs to be established.

What genres do you guys find is easier for you, personally, to write about?
writing whatever comes faster and more frequent, like for me comedy tends to be easier. few semesters back all my classmates were seasons deep into their own ideas, TV and movie but the films and shows ultimately reflects who the author is, which is why I asked my professor if at any point do you get some people more on the HBO side of TV of violence and sex or people who are away from that and make comedies or animated shows. she said its from all walks of life. but there are some creepy mofos who write crazy **** as if its from a diary or psycho fantasy., which did happen after my semester or so im told.

as for scripts, they do get bought, and get traded passed around a lot from all corporations big and small, like a 3rd string QB on his 6th team in 4 years. original scripts tend to go this way since originality is a risk in today's Hollywood, i.e everything is a remake to guarantee money. if its a hot topic for instance Fruitvale Station those get a go ahead but theres a difference in feature film between making Sundance and making the Oscars. huge money/marketing/exposure difference.

and remember the american teenager controls the entertainment media

I got an idea I been thinkin on for years would be good as an hbo series for 4-5 seasons anybody down 8o
