mac os has been discontined for almost 10 years and has been replaced with mac os x
for arguments sake you say their are many versions of mac os. but os x is the only os for apple that is relevant for apple right now. there are also many versions of os x and they themsleves are distinc products. snow leopard leopard tiger ect ect are their own distinct product and are all part of os x. just like each windows are their own distinctive product.

where does that leave os x?
os x is to windows xp? that doesnt make sense because windows xp is 1 product and os x is many products. tiger vs xp. leopard vs vista. sl vs 7
