Asian Culture Discussion Thread

Just watched Searching last night and would def recommend it. Packed theatre over at Oakridge. If you're from SJ you will notice the references . If you're on the computer every day like me you will appreciate the perspective.
Shout out to the Bay Area getting a lot of love lately, from Black Panthers, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Blindspotting, Crazy Rich Asians (the director), and Searching.

It's showing in my area next week I'm gonna try to watch it

In other news there's some Twitter drama rn making Asian men look bad. Someone was not happy with the asian snowboarder and her white partner and posted using their profile that had their work information. Apparently they are investigating and it mightve been a white dude with a fake account trying to make asian dudes look bad.

What kind of references they make? Spoiler tag it if necessary.

Yo it's wild how big BTS is now. They've been the only kpop band I follow and seeing all their success now is wild.

Went and saw CRA last Friday. I thought the movie was pretty good and they mostly followed the book as well.

I saw the writer of the crazy rich asian books is in trouble because he’s been dodging mandatory military service from I think singapore. he’s in his 40s already so I wonder how he’s been putting it off for so long.

And Sorry To Bother You. Kind of hoping NYC has a similar cinematic renaissance.

I wish I took Japanese in high school and college. Would’ve applied to be on the show and ask the fine women roommates if getting with a Filipino guy is on their bucket list.

I want to visit Japan so bad man. I definitely need to make that trip some point next year.

I want to visit too. I’d fall in love with all the Japanese and Brasilian mixed girls.

when i was im japan, i greeted a lot of japan girls in the streets with a quick “konichiwa” or “ohayo” , i didnt get anything back.
also when i was in harajuku, i was in a sneaker store when a group came in speaking in super american english accents. i looked and they were all asians, probably even filipino. they were noisy so i left

Ive been to japan 8 times in a 5 year span. I love it.
A week is enough in tokyo....but if You really wanna experience you need a 2nd so you can go through and really enjoy kyoto nara and osaka loop. As much as i love tokyo . i think Kyoto was my favorite. Ita everything i stereotyped japan to be. Quiet beautiful neighborhoods. Nice historical buildings along with a bit of the business in the main city part...it was perfect
I can eat co-co curry all day.

Edit; don't forget to go to kobe and have that real kobe beef. My gawd quickest and best 200 bucks I've ever spent on food

Definitely go to Japan if you can guys, it’s an experience.

Also my guy shogun shogun would fit in perfectly with all the pervs in Tokyo.

It was life changing. Hoping to go back at least 2-3 more times at least in the long future. First time around we were very budget conscience. Hostels were great, so clean and cheap. Next time, we will definitely make sure we can ball out more nights though it might be tough travelling with a toddler in the future hah.
IMO, its not worth flying overseas for 1 week. Its way too short, unless you already live on the west coast, maybe its a little easier and the flights are cheaper. I'm on the east, so its a long way there.

Saw CRA. I understand people enjoy seeing an asian cast, doing something less stereotypical than a kung fu/martial arts film.

That said, i greatly prefer action movies to romantic comedies.
I always wanted to be bruce lee and jackie chan growing up .
As an empowerment piece id rate it strongly.
As a movie to watch again? Naw , this joint is the Asian Notebook, no way.
