Tis the path we take. As we grow older in life, as does our rice and rice cookers.

Then when we enter our old age and pass on and our bodies return to the Earth, our remaining rice is leftover for the future generations...

...to be pan fried with egg, garlic, and ham/chinese sausage. This is the Circle of Rice.

I just can't imagine a regular person needing a 600 dollar rice cooker

If you're a professional chef maye?

Rice is rice

Difference between a good sushi spot and a great one is the Rice. Even the chefs say that they all buy the fish from the same market or dealer...but it's the rice that separates them.

The best Chinese fried rice I've ever had was in Vancouver...the chef said the secret was the rice...prepared in small batches and temp controlled afterwards.

When you go to Japan and visit the countryside, try a traditional rice making event...they cook it in cast iron cauldrons over dried Hay and mild wood charcoal to not add any impure aromas within the rice.

Nah I understand this.

If I'm eating at a nice restaurant I'd want the chefs to have the best means to cook rice too. They better have the best rice cookers, etc to make the most of their cooking skills

But if I'm a regular person cooking at home, is it necessary? That's my question

For sure...but if you eat rice often then $600 is reasonable.
Why eat organic, free range, grass fed, non GMO...
Also, I'm pretty sure you've purchased shoes or clothes that cost more than $600 and wore them only a few times.

The best fried rice I've ever had in my life was at a random burmese restaurant in queens. Pops used to buy just the fried rice with sausage for us every week. At some point it closed and I never had it again. I don't even remember the name of the spot.

To this day I don't think I've had fried rice that good.

on a side note. What country's rice you'll rocking with??
This should be interesting.

Japan has the best artisanal rice. But according to locals in Japan, after 2011, you must be certain which area the rice was harvested...the same goes for Japanese Whisky...Pre 2011 bottles were snatched up quickly. Tourists get rice from Fukushima area.

I'm fine with the CA organic rice. And once in a while Mitsuwa will have a Rice showcase from Japan and will buy a lot.

You better alert everyone the next time there's a rice showcase.
