the CCP will NOT back down. It's about keeping face at this point. If they lose in to HK, they lose all credibility in the eyes of their people. And that's all they are about, rep.
IF you got back less than 100 years, the Japanese slowly creeped into China the same damn way. Putting the Kempeitai and the Kwantung Army into northern China Manchuria, and it all went south from there.
