you couldn’t tell that the people that run the page are racist?

I mentioned this a while back and people insisted on posting their content here.
The defense for posting their trash content has been “But Asian_Dawn brings awareness to the violence against Asians!”
As if there aren’t other pages doing that while managing not to be racist as hell.
How are people combating racism with more racism and outright lies?

That page is trash and so are the people who post racist stuff in the comments. I like they're spreading news articles and awareness but a lot of the written content is fear driven propaganda and uneducated hot takes.
that "soysaucesupremacist" hashtag ... they think it's a cute way to patronize people who call out white supremacy.
i probably need to just not get off social media entirely. i recently got blocked by a page called the "blackbayarea." i generally rock with the page and agree with their sentiments; but i commented on one of their posts where they tried to say asian folks in the bay were "stealing" the vaccine from black and brown communities. they proceeded to post some bull**** about how it's not their responsibility to explain their position and then blocked me. stuff like asian dawn and my experience with the black bay area make me jaded as ****.
It’s important to document all of the harassment and violence. But that Asian Dawn page does seem to stoke the fires with their base.
Just saw that other NT thread about black people being blamed for Asian American racism that got locked. I'll just say this. Pitting minorities against each other has been the playbook by racist folk in power for centuries. "Whiteness" was created to unite Irish, Italians, Germans etc against people of color as those in power needed people to remain oppressed. Minority groups turning on each other is exactly what them racist folk want. Don't play into this.
The only way out of this is solidarity. Just like you wouldn't want a bad actor in your community to represent the community as a whole, don't look at what the media shows you and paint black people as the culprits. When it comes down to it, minorities in America are more similar than different.

like I said I didn’t follow them long. I read through the news stories/articles but a deep dive into their stuff and the comments was a cesspool.

on one hand, I can't be mad at them for highlighting the rise in violence against Asian communities. there needs to be more awareness as the deaths and trauma are real.
however, we can talk about this **** in a way that isn't divisive and doesn't generate hate. I haven't seen that page propose a single solution, but rather they'll blame DAs who are "soft on crime" or folks who advocate to defund the police. if anyone wants a more nuanced perspective and is interested in current organizing efforts i'd suggest @stopaapihate, @asiansformentalhealth, @aapiwomenlead and @aapiforceef
you stopped short of calling them racist though
Twice now.
That’s like saying “I can’t be mad at Trump because he puts America first”.
Come on.
I acknowledge that bringing awareness to the rise in violence has value but that doesn’t overshadow the fact that the page is blatantly racist. It’s not ok at all and using the fact that they bring awareness is not a valid excuse for posting their racist content.
the Instagram account asian_dawn is racist. against black folks especially.
happy?
it's not an either/or situation. Comparing it to Trumpism is a reach and I hope you're not comparing raising awareness about anti-Asian violence to spreading white supremacy. Trump was intentionally trying to be divisive and organize his base to increase xenophobia and anti-blackness. With asian dawn, scrolling through their history, it seems like their agenda has always been to make sure asian's have a visible presence in media. as an Asian person who's been frustrated with the historical marginalization of asian american experiences. I can respect that intent.
But, I agree, it's not an excuse to make posts that generate racism/prejudice towards others. elevating one community's voice shouldn't come at the expense of another community. unfortunately, i've seen it across different pages and platforms. some pro-asian accounts, pro-black accounts, their comments' sections have become cesspools of bigotry. it's like folks don't actually go outside and connect with others from different perspectives.
Used to work Downtown Financial District for many years back in the day. SF turning into cesspool.
was it that hard?
Obviously AD doesn’t have the power or influence that the former president had/has but I don’t think my targeted comparison is a reach at all.
I used that example to say you can put one thing first without being blatantly racist towards another.
It may have been wuchi01 that said this (forgive me if it was not) but someone here defended AD by telling me that it’s ok to post AD content and that I should be aware that they’re a far right wing group that promotes Asians and denounces anything that isn’t Asian. They went a step further and told me I shouldn’t be surprised because of what their masthead says.
That’s some Trump s*** and there’s no way around it.
absolutely, I agree with you on that bolded part.
I also feel like positioning what AD does next to Trumpism is careless and just as dangerous as what AD does towards the Black community in terms of creating false narratives. Trump and white supremacy operate on completely different part on the social and political power structure than a bunch of conservative, rightwing Asians on IG. That being said, I don't think AD has done anything positive and if anything, has generated a lot of resentment.
I disagree.
Racism is racism and you can’t slice it up into categories.
What you’re saying is almost like trying to divide racism into different buckets. Like there’s Full-fat racism and there’s racist-lite (which is where you might place AD).
I’m not going for that one lol. All racists fall in the same bucket.
racism can’t be overlooked or excused if it stands right next to pro-Asian something or pro-gay something.
It doesn’t work like that and proposing that it does is perpetuating racism itself.
Oh and racism is very much an either or type of thing.
The four victims were female and appear to be Asian, Bryant said, adding it was too early to say what their connection was to the spas.
you're right, racism is racism. whether it's full fat or skim, the differences between intent and impact by the perpetrators of racism shouldn't matter.
in terms of calling out asian dawn for their racism and misinformed posts, i expect folks to keep that same kind of energy and accountability when addressing posts/pages that spread anti-Asian sentiment. I've seen one too many comments' sections fester with things like "Asians can't experience racism." ...i quit.

suspect is some incel looking white dude, shocked pikachu.
Venturing into the comments section is where you went wrong lol.
I don’t do that to myself anymore. There’s no point.
