ME AND THE WIFE BOUGHT A NEW CONSTRUCTION HOUSE 1 MILE FROM DOWNTOWN HOUSTON A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. WE ARE STILL IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING EVERYTHING SET UP. WE FINISHED THE GUEST BEDROOM FIRST THEN I RE-DID THE GRASS IN OUR YARD AS I HATE ST. AUGUSTINE GRASS. DECIDED TO GO WITH EMERALD ZOYSIA. FOR THE FIRST TIME, I HAD MY OWN GARAGE SO DECIDED TO TURN IT INTO A MAN CAVE.

How difficult was it to lay that epoxy flooring?

THE ACTUAL PROCESS OF APPLYING THE EPOXY IS CAKE AND ACTUALLY FUN TO WEAR THE SPIKE SHOES, ROLL THE EPOXY AND SPRINKLE THE CHIPS. THE HELL PART CAME FROM THE PREP WORK. GRINDING THE FLOOR DOWN SO THAT THE EPOXY WILL STICK PROPERLY IS A MAJOR PAIN IN THE BUTT. I STARTED OFF WITH A HAND GRINDER BUT IT WAS TAKING FOREVER SO I RENTED A BIG FLOOR GRINDER FROM AN ACQUAINTANCE.

GRINDING TOOK AN ENTIRE DAY TO DO. LAYING THE EPOXY, BROADCASTING THE CHIPS AND LAYING THE CLEAR COAT TOOK AROUND 2 AND A HALF DAYS BUT MOST OF THAT WAS DRYING TIME OF THE EPOXY AND CLEAR COAT. THE ACTUAL WORK TIME WAS AROUND 2 HOURS FOR THAT.

IF YOU WANT TO GO THE QUICK ROUTE, HOME DEPOT AND LOWES SELL CHEAP GARAGE FLOORING KITS WHERE YOU DON'T NEED TO GRIND THE FLOOR BUT INSTEAD THEY USE AN ACID WASH TO PREP THE FLOOR. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I'VE SEEN HORROR STORIES OF THOSE DIY KITS HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH PROPERLY ADHERING TO THE GARAGE FLOOR AND ALSO WITH YELLOWING AFTER A FEW YEARS. I WOULD SPEND THE MONEY TO HAVE IT DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME AND FORGET ABOUT IT.

GREAT GROUP OF GUYS OVER THERE WHO WILL GUIDE AND GIVE HELP FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO MANCAVE THEIR GARAGE OR EVEN OTHER AREAS OF THEIR HOME. THERE'S ALSO SOME GUYS WITH SERIOUS CASH WHO HAVE SOME REALLY AWESOME AND INTERESTING SETUPS FOR ANYONE HERE LOOKING FOR THAT MOTIVATION :lol:
 
That garage looking amazing. How much did you spend on materials (flooring, shelving, paint).

THE TOTAL BILL CAME OUT AROUND $2200 FOR ALL THE MATERIALS. MOST OF THAT COST CAME FROM THE GEARWALLS AND THE SHELVING (AROUND $1600). WOULD OF BEEN DOUBLE THE COST IF I DIDN'T CATCH THE GLADIATOR STUFF ON SALE. ONCE A YEAR, HOME DEPOT, AMAZON, AND LOWES PUTS THE GLADIATOR STUFF ON A MAJOR 40%-50% OFF SALE. I LITERALLY POSTPONED THE PROJECT FOR MONTHS UNTIL THAT SALE CAME ALONG.

I ASSUME LABOR WOULD OF BEEN A MAJOR COST IF I WASN'T DOING IT ALL MYSELF.

I'm pretty excited to get hands on with things at the new crib too but it's a damn near new house and I'm hoping Inspection doesn't find any issues when they come later this week.

I'd flip if I were to find out mice or anything are getting into the house. I don't mess with rodents, no sir.

Man me too if there's one thing other then the usual in inspections on new homes its rodents or insects like roaches :x .I would literally flip out man and here in Houston its a common occurrence in certain neighborhoods with dirty neighbors/sewage and I hate it

yeah, kinda why I asked, assumed you were in those townhouses close by which has skyrocketed in value. Props again, Seattle is major expensive though. After living so close into a major city and downtown, IDK if I could go back to Suburbia life.
 
Anyone happen to have any West Elm codes? Of course now that I want to buy things all the 15% and 20% off promos they've sent me are expired...

One of my childhood friends live out there in one of those townhomes downtown. Dude has roof deck overlooking downtown. Panty dropper view but he's married :lol:
