Basketball Thread About Nothing

that list of the combo of most athletic & skilled is going to net out the usually suspects, old heads & connoisseurs might make arguments for the bill russells/walt chamberlains of yesteryear but to really get into it you’d have to define athleticism & skill; for instance would folk add a guy like rodman to this list?

Right? What is skill?

Rotman's rebounding ability was as good as anyone else's one singular skill. In his prime he could comfortably guard 3 positions and in the right situation guard 5. High defense / Low Offense. Offensively, we know he didn't really have IT though.

So would he be more "skilled" than someone like The Ice Trae Young who is essentially All offense no defense?

Interested in hearing thoughts on this..

I said it before but I love how this thread has somehow morphed into a basketball philosophy thread.

Doors of the church are open yall.

🤔🧐 funnily enough, the wild thing is rodman was a scorer in college…was he just so much of an athlete that it didn’t matter in that level and had to adjust in the pros or was he skilled enough to be a scorer but savvy enough realize his niche/was put in a role?

He was that much better/more athletic than his competition that he was able to do that.

We saw what he did vs. Elite Tradesmen once he got to the NBA

"that said the most athletic people are not usually the most skilled & the most skilled usually isn’t the most athletic…"

That's what made Jordan so special. I would like to see a list of who people that had the highest combinations of athleticism and skill.

Names that come to mind from our eras.

Jordan
TMAC
Kobe
Penny
Grant Hill
Bronze

I noticed I would probably end up listing a bunch of wing players.
Looking at that list of skill+athleticism elites… I’d have no problem adding in Vince and AI. Yes AI was small so people may say he wasn’t blessed with the same freaky genetics of those other cats, but in my opinion he overly made up for that by being absurdly quick. Like in a league with PGs in the top .00001 of quickness, he could make them look slow in comparison lol. On that thought, can put Kyrie in there.
Not sure how you’d feel about “in shape” prime Shaq….

🤷🏿‍♂️ arguably every player that gets that superstar level is some rare blend of athleticism & skill, larry bird (compared to the general pop would have been considered athletic) altho not crazy athletic by nba standards was insanely skilled, is he on this list?

as much as i love ai, i’m not sure he is on the list of most skilled & most athletic, same goes for shaq…because i would say both were both more athletic than skilled (not saying they weren’t skilled tho)

honestly i couldn’t even begin to imagine how to put parameters of how come up with a list 😅

I would say about 95% of dudes who make it to the league got buckets on the lower levels …Scoring is how you make your name and get recognized, and up thru high level college you can just run and jump to put up points

Rodman was a 6’7 top athlete playing in a lower tier college conference, no surprise his stats were good

Well when we’re talking skill and athleticism Lebron is number #1 on that list.

That Hezi vs DUI Ty game was embarassing and boring. Basically a 3 point contest. Ty either washed af or didnt give 1 damn about that game. And Hezi with his goofy *** stanky leg whenever he does a crossover is just terrible to watch.

🤔 what y’all say?

Yooo that’s actually tough.
I checked comments. Everyone said he took a trip.

I’m looking at when he picked up his dribble and I see 2 steps after he picked it up. Idk… gather , 1, 2 I think.
