All the %@+% they talk about their competition applies to them too. If I don't prefer BF's multiplayer over COD's, then what reason do I have to choose their game first.

Huh? How did you get that? All I got from that article was:

SP is longer than MW2

and that was pretty much it.

unless you have played the other actual BF games on PC you won't understand

I wouldnt mind a fps game with no on screen hit markers/sounds or a kill feed/scoreboard. Actually, that would be the one. The uncertainty of a kill would be

BF2 MC is 1000 times better than the bad company series

As you can see in our Caspian Border gameplay trailer, the skies in Battlefield 3 will be filled not only with helicopters, but with roaring fighter and attack jets as well. No matter if you want to transport your troops quickly to the current hot spot on the battlefield, if you want to engage in high G dogfights, or take out enemy tanks with laser guided missiles – there’s a flying vehicle in Battlefield 3 that lets you do the job in style.

With over 20 drivable vehicles in multiplayer spread over 12 classes, you will find your personal favorite whether you prefer to fly above the battlefield or stay on solid ground. Some of the vehicle classes include armored transports, infantry fighting vehicles, main battle tanks, scout helicopters, attack helicopters, fighter jets, and attack jets. Whatever your choice, we let you fine tune almost every vehicle in Battlefield 3 to fit your play style, the current map, and the current situation.

Deeper, bigger, tactical vehicle customization

Vehicle customization is much bigger, deeper, and more tactical in nature than in previous Battlefield games. With over 80 unlockable specialization upgrades spread over the different vehicle classes, there is plenty of room for you to tailor your rides to fit your needs. Each customizable vehicle class has three unlock slots: one secondary weapon slot, one gadget slot, and one upgrade slot. By playing a vehicle class and getting kills with it, you gradually unlock more specializations for that particular vehicle class.

Vehicle customization in Battlefield 3 is just as deep and tactical as the weapon customization showcased here on the blog last week. For every choice you make in vehicle customization, you are effectively gearing up for a specific combat role and leaving something else out. In the Russian fighter jet, do you go with anti-air missiles to dogfight enemy air targets, or would you rather mount a handful of laser guided air to ground missiles as your secondary weapon to harass opposing tanks? Do you equip it with IR flares to avoid missiles, or would you rather take your chances with the fire extinguisher in case you get hit?

Our most dynamic vehicle warfare ever We are making sure vehicle warfare in Battlefield 3 is even more dynamic than before. That’s why we are introducing two new tactical gameplay concepts affecting how vehicle damage and repairs are handled.

Imagine that your tank is hit by an RPG in Battlefield 3. As the first warnings go off, this is your time as Commander of the tank to assess the danger of the situation – do you push on towards your goal regardless, or do you abort and take evasive action? If you back up and take cover, you give yourself a chance to let the vehicle armor recover, just like your soldier heals up when going into cover.

This is a new feature in Battlefield 3 where lightly damaged vehicles recover their armor after a set amount of time (if kept away from enemy fire). Instead of promoting a gung-ho attitude at all times, this means that the driver who keeps his cool and adapts to any given situation will also be able to keep his vehicle in working order for longer. It is basically our way of giving smart non-Engineers a fighting chance to keep his vehicle in the battle.

Past a certain damage threshold, vehicles will not recover armor. And with heavy damage comes the horrifying and adrenaline-inducing experience of having one’s vehicle disabled. In the case of the tank, it would slow to a crawl. Fire and smoke would signal that it is in dire need of manual repairs, and that it is only a matter of time before it explodes. But here’s the beauty of the new system: Its weapons will still be functioning, turning this into a high risk situation that can play out in a number of ways.

PAX 2011 / BF3 Community Day Recap - via Battlefieldo.com

After a few hours of flying and airport terminals, I managed to get my way to Seattle, WA for PAX 2011 and the North American Battlefield 3 Community Event. The whole weekend turned out to be a ton of fun. Meeting and hanging out with Chris (DRMB), Jay (Pixelenemy), Scott (PlanetBF), and Quentin (EnterBF3) through the course of the weekend was one of the best parts. I’ve gone to past Battlefield community events, but the fact that this was for the whole weekend really gave me a chance to relax and enjoy hanging out and meeting new people only know through internet identities before hand. The first day of PAX, we managed to get into the Nvidia play area due to our Community mind-tricks to meet up with Daniel aka Zh1nt0.  We all sat down for a few minutes and got our first taste of TDM on Operation Metro a few hours before the Community Event. Patrick Liu a Producer from DICE as well as Per, a QA Tester joined in on the fun. I managed to grab some shotgun dogtags as I wrecked havoc, spray and praying the tight corners of the metro.

After playing a bit of Team Deathmatch, we needed some nom a nom’s so the BF3 Community Site Posie rolled over to a Mexican restaurant to fill our fix before the Community event. I was surprised by the size of my burrito, it made it difficult to finish. Then we headed back to the Hotel to get ready for the Battlefield 3 Community event. To our surprise, EA had rented out a huge conference ballroom just for the 32 of us who were invited. When we entered the room there were 32 PC’s lined on the edge with a PS3 at each station. In the centre of the room was a massive table with a huge selection of food with several sets of fancy round tables for our use. In the corner there was also a Open Bar with a tender who went a little hard on the liquor in the mix. I’ll admit, I was pretty blown away by the setup. Once we finished our gourmet meal, Seeson gave the go ahead for us each to grab a station. We started with playing the PS3 Coop mode with who ever was next to us.

EA’s Seeson hides in a bush on Operation Metro

Even though I own a PS3, I have been a bit sceptical of how the console version would be in comparison to the PC. I have to say though that there was a huge improvement on the graphics compared to what we saw at the Jimmy Fallon show months before. The mission we played involved fighting through night time streets while escorting a Humvee patrol. The sound was what really got me. Every time a RPG or the humvee fired it’s .50 Cal, I felt like I was stuck amidst a battle.  From my experience with the game so far, Battlefield 3 is truly the most immersive game to date.  If my friend managed to take a hit, he would be impaled on the ground and it was up to me to run over and revive him for us to continue the mission. While tiles crack and shatter from oncoming bullet fire, even this was a adrenaline rush. After enjoying a few white Russians from the bar and getting trolled by Daniel, I didn’t even manage to finish the Coop mission.

Then we moved over to the PC version of Battlefield 3. This time Operation Metro on 32 player Rush. Even though I was looking forward to playing Caspian Border, it was good to note that Operation Metro had been changed quite a bit since the Alpha. The MCOM’s were repositioned in the First stage of the park and also much more finer details of concrete barricades were added to provide the attacker with more cover on that push through an open park.  The first thing that blew me away was the graphics. I’m not sure if it was the rig we were playing on or that it’s been improved, but it looked considerably better then any video we’ve seen. Tiny dust particles could be seen when moving into and out of the shadows. The textures also looked very high resolution.  We also had access to the full arsenal of Unlocks and this was another thing that blew me away. The amount of options available makes every weapon turn into 10 different weapons. I personally made use of the DA0-12 shotgun that sure packs a punch. In the first round I finished with 27 – 3.

Hopefully we will see Trusted Server Partners hosting LAN events because playing this game with everyone in the same room was tons of fun. When a side would win, you’d hear it’s audible force across the other side of the room and vice versa. During my time playing, I managed to check out the Menu settings and I think Battlefield fans will be pleased. It really seems like DICE have included the years of config editing straight into the settings.

Settings:

You can now adjust the FOV manually in the menu

Advanced Graphics settings with tons of options

Ability to keymap Infantry, Vehicles, Jets, Helicopters

Joystick Support

Toggle between hold or click for zoom /crouch

The whole community event lasted around 4 hours and after quite a bit of laughs, food and drinks on the house, it was a great outing. We even got some nice swag from EA such as Gunnar Glasses (Not really sure how well they work to be honest), Razer mouse (YES!), and a Bracelet from Off Duty Gamers. After the event wrapped up, a few of us ended up going on a night-time adventure with zh1nt0 through Seattle. The next morning, Chris (DRMB) and I went with zh1nt0 to check out a bit of Seattle. After a amazing lunch, we ended up in a park overlooking the pacific, each of us with of a bottle of a novelty drink called Leninade.

Chris, Daniel and myself at a amazing Bolivian Restaurant

We then returned to the Seattle Convention Centre to the Nvidia Play area to get in a few more rounds of TDM. In total during the weekend, I think I went there at least 6 – 7 times to play more of the game and hang out with Per Hellqvist, a QA from DICE who was in charge of making sure the Server went smooth for all the players coming into the Nvidia Zone.  Overall the weekend was an amazing time. Not only were things covered by EA but it was a amazing opportunity to soak in a new City, hang out with the people you only know via the internet, play Battlefield 3 and get to see packs of nerds rally in a huge convention centre. Hopefully closer to release we will see more of these events happening and I really hope that we see some sort of LAN events going down in the future! I want to send a thanks to the EA Community team for organizing and the guys at DICE for making an amazing game. Everytime I play it, you can see a steady improvement.

I thought dates were pretty much confirmed?

Sept. 9th for the people who purchased MoH and those who preordered with Origin
Sept. 11th for the rest of the world

-The Juice

Those were one of the many speculated dates but nothing was ever confirmed by BFs official networking channels.. ie: tweets by Dan, demize & other devs or Blog posts on their main page .... So we're still awaiting a solid date conformation.
Nonetheless.. They have a set date. They just need to be cleared (Im guessing by EA) to give the go ahead & announce it

My take is that theyre going to annouunce it in next weeks blog post and/or after Call of Duty XP.

@the MW3 trailer

Were they purposely showing so much glass breaking in the beginning to try and make it look like the environments are destructible? That all went to @#$* though when the guy drops an airstrike in the marketplace and nothing got destroyed.

Battlefield 3: David Goldfarb spells out single-player
Will BF3′s solo-play match its online component for quality? VG247 speaks to the head architect of Battlefield 3′s single-player campaign on its tone, length, commitment to sensitivity and more.

bf321.jpg

There can be little doubt that Battlefield 3 is the hottest core video game in the world right now, at least in terms of anticipation. After a carefully managed campaign of story trailers, multiplayer reveals and show demos on nuclear PCs, the DICE FPS has been pushed up into the very top tier of big budget action games for 2011, vying for control of the shooter category against Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 3.

But while it’s practically unthinkable that the game’s multiplayer will be anything less than spectacular, given the studio’s long history in the field, there’s still a question mark over the single-player component. Graphically, there’s no doubt: to argue that Frostbite 2 looks even a shade less than incredible you’d have to be both mad and blind. But has the studio learned from pacing and immersion errors from the Bad Company campaigns to deliver a game-changing solo experience in BF3?

We asked David Goldfarb, the game’s lead designer, on a visit to DICE’s Stockholm offices this week.

VG247: Battlefield single-player is traditionally not the strongest point of the franchise: it’s been multiplayer-focused right from the start. How are you coping with the pressure of creating the campaign?

David Goldfarb: I think we have a pretty good history having worked on Bad Company 1 and 2, but we know as a studio we’ve only made two single-player shooters and we have God knows how many multiplayer titles. We’re well aware of what our strengths and weaknesses are. We do a couple of things; firstly, we do rely on multiplayer when it comes to mechanics. That’s the best way of getting the stupid out is to have a bunch of people play it. That’s where our core comes from in terms of movement and firing, and all that stuff.

And then because that is what it is, when it comes to making single-player, we’re well aware that we’re well ahead in many ways of multiplayer than we are in single-player, but that doesn’t mean we’re any less ambitious in single-player.

Up to this point, Battlefield has been very much a fan-focused franchise. DICE takes a lot of care with listening to its fans. The IP is now being accelerated into this very top tier, this quadruple-A category, and you must be very aware of the type of product you need in terms of single-player to succeed. Even though you’re pulling these elements of multiplayer, how aware are you that you have to lean on that really big, cinematic experience that you haven’t provided before?

Even when we did BC2, there were things we didn’t do there that we were going to have to do when we did the next one, and not just because we were competing with others, but because we want to get better. There are things that we’ve done this time around that are miles ahead of where we were in BC2 when it comes to interactive storytelling, or the integration of cut-scenes and gameplay. In the past we’d split them, and they’re hard. All that stuff; the way we’re dealing with animation and so on; all these systems which we had compartmentalized are now part of creating this dramatic experience that we know we need to create to satisfy ourselves more than anyone else.

How much of an edge do you think Frostbite 2 gives you in terms of creating this top tier single-player experience?

Quite a bit. I mean, there’s a lot of stuff; there’s workflow and everything, but there’s sound, and animation is a huge part of it, as is lighting. The best thing is when people look at what we’ve done and they don’t actually know why it feels real. We always get feedback, with people saying, ‘This feels more real than other stuff, but we don’t know why.’ Its because all those things are working together in harmony, and I think it’s because Frostbite’s a big part of how that feels to people.

What did you learn from the Bad Company games in terms of storytelling? They’re quite flippant and jokey, and Battlefield 3 really isn’t. Do you see this as a continuation, or is this something new?

Having worked on both and having written for both, I think it was really clear when I started that we were making something completely different. The biggest challenge, actually, was, ‘How’s this going to feel different from those guys, because we don’t want to make Bad Company 3 now; we want to make Battlefield 3 now.

I would tell them pix or GTHO ^
Battlefield 3 on Xbox 360 Featured in Official Xbox Magazine

The October issue of Official Xbox Magazine hits shelves today with an exclusive first look at the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3. Up until now we have only heard about the PC and Playstation 3 versions of Battlefield 3. If you have a copy of the magazine let us know what they say.

OXM 77 hits shelves today, and our cover game is none other than Battlefield 3. In a 10 page epic penned by Matt, we pit the EA shooter against Activision's latest Call of Duty. Expect gallons of spicy quote from the likes of Robert Bowling and Patrick Bach, thorough hands-on impressions and stringent tech, gun and connectivity comparisons.

Also today a Japanese blog posted pictures of a poster stating the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield 3 will be 2 discs. This wouldn't come as a surprise since the Steelbook edition appears to hold two discs.
