Black Culture Discussion Thread

I keep telling ya'll about these black women who seem to focus a lot of their energy bashing black men

Yeah, Cari...seems questionable.

Jemele should know better.

Then again I dont know either of them.

Look, I get it. Part of what makes jokes funny with friends is blurring that line of social acceptability. But that's why you have an inner circle and you keep that **** there...not posted for all to judge.

Granted, us judging is probably a problem within itself. Just wish we did better amongst mixed company. Stay on code, dammit

While I agree with you, who would you have selected in November and why? Also, in regards to the vaccination, unfortunately, we have some of our "smart dumb" brothers advocating for it as if they know exactly what's in it as well as knowing what the side effects are. On top of that, we have had some top scientists in western nations advocating to test all possible vaccines on the people of Africa. It is only right that black people are skeptical of any so-called vaccination.

Honestly i'm not blaming anyone for Voting for Biden, but what was killing me was this false & honestly disrespectful narrative that Biden/Kamala were gonna induce some real change in this system. It back to politics as usual

****** was loud & proud about black people winning the dems the election

The Dems response?

BLM as an ORG i don't **** with at all either, but to completely leave them out of the meeting goes to show what is to come from this administration going forward.

Once they get your vote you're not needed.

Johns Hopkins, Long Believed An Abolitionist, Actually Owned Slaves, University Says

Historians for Johns Hopkins University discovered that the founder of the Baltimore-based school owned slaves, contrary to the long-held belief that the wealthy philanthropist was a staunch abolitionist.

Researchers Martha S. Jones and Allison Seyler made the discovery after delving into previously undiscovered government census records as part of a university-led project on the school's history.

The findings "complicate the understanding" the Johns Hopkins community has toward its founder, wrote University President Ronald J. Daniels and other school officials in an open letter Wednesday.

"It calls to mind not only the darkest chapters in the history of our country and our city but also the complex history of our institutions since then, and the legacies of racism and inequity we are working together to confront," the officials wrote.

The census records show Hopkins owned slaves as late as 1850. This is contrary to a long-held narrative that Hopkins' father, motivated by his Quaker faith, freed all slaves on the family plantation by 1807, when Hopkins himself was only a boy.

Hopkins, who was born in 1795, was the owner of one slave listed in his household in 1840 and four slaves listed in 1850, according to the newly discovered census information. By the 1860 census, no slaves were listed as being in his household. Maryland abolished slavery in 1864.

This recorded meeting Biden had with some of these so called black leaders is cringe as hell. He just telling these dudes what they are and not gonna do. Basically getting them in-line. They do all this championing these politicians to get talked down to.

Can we not pretend that the 1960s are the same as the 2020s with respect to who has access to knowledge and expertise? When Belgium left Congo, the number of science professionals there could be counted on one hand. In the US, Black people could not study or be employed in the STEM fields back then. Today, there are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Black professionals working in all aspects of science and tech all over the world. Do you think they would participate in selling dubious solutions to Black people to please the Man?

Y'all are doing too much sometimes.

his is false. You clearly don't know anything about black people nor black history. We did have black scientists during the 60's. Were they discriminated against and/or have their research hampered and stolen? Yes. However, I will credit you and say that there wasn't an abundance of them and they're still aren't. However, the entire COVID situation has become politicized. If you believe that just because have some black brothers and sisters in the field, they will be able to oversee every angle of the production and distribution of the vaccine, then you're naive. How do you know that they won't give one set of the vaccine to certain communities and then a different set to others? Let me guess, you don't believe there's racism in health care? I suggest you go do some Googles and familiarize yourself.

Believe what you want, but there is clear and obvious evidence that there is racism within healthcare and black people have every right to be skeptical.

"The very vaccine that's one of the two that has absolutely exquisite levels -- 94 to 95% efficacy against clinical disease and almost 100% efficacy against serious disease that are shown to be clearly safe -- that vaccine was actually developed in my institute's vaccine research center by a team of scientists led by Dr. Barney Graham and his close colleague, Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, or Kizzy Corbett," Fauci told the forum. "Kizzy is an African American scientist who is right at the forefront of the development of the vaccine."

I def agree black folks have every right to question vaccines. Hell wasn't it last year some random dude was in DC paying folks to get injections, no explanation? That said though those were secret and nefarious, this is open and global for everyone to see like chicken pox. I do think that someone respected needs to do a townhall or something with the black community to answer questions and ease concerns.

Now that BLM is being systematically ignored and no one knows where the money is and where it's going, now they wanna have the discussion about setting up legitimate entities and organizational structure.

You got multiple white people with pending trademark claims, apparel companies, all the millions of marketing dollars ....where do the donations go?

They are asking for the BLM donations back because they can't confirm who is who and what the actual structure is.

But everyone was shaming black folks talking about tangibles.

This is exactly what you get when you let politicians come in your town , use you like a cheap woman of the night and forget about you til the need you in four years.

When they said on cnn that those in the medical field were going to reach out to the Black clergy? That raised my antenna all the way up.
