Jackie MacMullan is one of the world’s best sportswriters and has covered a Black league in the NBA for decades. As a woman working in a male-dominated industry, you would think she would have a good grasp on the diminished role minorities have historically played in sports.

So to be clear, I do not agree with Jackie Mac here. I don't agree with Irving either, but I dont agree with Mac's position that NBA players are property. They are contracted workers entering a system that requires them to volunteer their services for the first 4 years of their career while also being paid during that time.
But, the reason why I post here is the last sentence of the article.
Why is the assertation here that Jackie Mac is mad? Why cant it just be a difference of opinion. I feel slightly silly asking that question, as I truly understand why we must keep our antennas up at all times for hidden or coded white supremacy. That said, I think the inability to just deal with the comments situation as it appears, without thinking their is a deeper thing at play here (and when I read that Mac is potentially mad at NBA players wielding more power, I do feel like they are implying something more is at play here) prevents a level of healing and peace that is needed in this nation. Not attempting to put that onus on us, as of we need to do more to let the healing happening. But I do think there's something here that can be better.
