Black Culture Discussion Thread

That shh damn near played at every arena during a ball game. Mfs got no choice but to know it

Between that and movies and shhh

Hell I didn’t realize for a decent while the amount of reggae song covers they got for a bunch of songs and that would have been my first time actually learning some of these songs

Getting out of your cultural bubble is one of the coolest things about the military. You realize how much more diverse peoples perspectives are. The simple narratives of mainstream media really keep us from getting to know one another. I met black conservatives, rural white redneck socialists, rural christians who'd give you the shirt off their back, and urban east coasters looking to break out of the concrete jungle for the real one. Great people in this country if we'd just give each other a chance.

This country won’t ever be fixed until we are given the reparations we rightfully deserve. Until then, nope. You guy are so easily impressed by others knowing song lyrics and whatnot.

Ask those same people their stance on reparations and watch they get hush mouthed. They aren’t allies. Fight for us getting the money they owed us from 350+ years of free labor, then we can have a conversation.

I know a dark skin black dude in his 30s and grew up in the rural midwest. (Hes no Carlton Banks type). He was the only dude in every room he's ever been in. He said he never had any issues he knew of with race. He dont fully unstabd why but thinks its because white kids are wild af and have no home training, and he has always been respectful due to how his mom n aunt raised him, so he was always stood out and got preferential treatment compared to his peers.

He shared about some white chick he was smashing as a teen. Her parents always wanted him to come over cus their daughter treated them like **** except when he was over there. He would change the whole tone. They always bring him vacationing with them and had him bring friends. They felt he was a positive influence.

He says people always ask him about his experience but he says he had it great. He know racism exists and it happens still, but not every time to everybody. And he was lucky with how his out going personality is, how he was raised, and that he never came across anyone who outwardly expressed their distaste for black people.

This post just made me think of him.

Cracking the daughters back and getting flown out. Your Man’s was living the life.

Bro what?

You can make friends and enjoy the company of people who you have political disagreements with. I used to let my politics consume every aspect of my interactions and it just made me angry and miserable. I’m not impressed because someone knows some reggae lyrics. I don’t “invite people to the cookout.” Not everyone needs to be an ally for me to enjoy a social interaction. I can appreciate a person for what/who they are without compromising my political values and aspirations.

Those skills should be mandatory AT HOME what the heck

They forgot to ad “how to clean and be hygienic”

They should be mandatory at home. That was also my first thought but it should also be the obligation of the school to make it happen as well.

Those are 12 stipulations that y’all want be taught by teachers? Even if it’s broken down amongst a few teachers.

Schools don’t even want provide free lunch, performing arts, etc.

Parents need to be just as hands on as these teachers.

It’s the parents jobs to teach etiquette, cleanliness, vehicles maintenance, self defense, survival, etc.

A teacher shouldn’t be responsible for being a therapist. Go to therapy.

Finances, insurance, coding, taxes, and cooking I agree with those. Those should be taught along with the typical curriculum.

Teachers should NOT be responsible for:

Etiquette, home repair, public speaking, car maintenance, survival skills, self defense, stress management.

Heck no. Those are the parents responsibility.

America is such a lazy country. Half that list basically asking teachers to raise your kids hell nall.

These teachers are underpaid and have to deal with classes of 24-32 kids with no teachers aid, and a few bad apples (not all kids are but) but half of that list is ridiculous.

It’s the parents/family job to teach their kid etiquette, public speaking, stress management and home maintenance and car repair.

My grandfather and uncle taught me how to work on cars. My uncle was a roofer, my dad does construction, me and my cousins know how to do carpentry and whatnot. That’s ridiculous thinking the teacher is responsible for kids behavior

If you’re a grown man and don’t know how to change a tire that’s a reflection upon your FAMILY and is embarrassing. If you don’t know how to check your car battery or jump a car, that’s an embarrassment.

If you don’t know how to read your cars owners manual that says put 87 gas but, you instead use 93, that’s a personal problem.

If your car requires synthetic oil, but you put conventional oil, that’s your fault, not a teachers fault.

Let me go out in public with bad etiquette, bad public speaking or behavior, my MOTHER would beat my behind y’all tripping

I’ve driven past so many car where it’s a bunch of dudes with a flat tire and they all looking clueless and don’t know what the hell to do. I had to help my homeboy once and he was shocked that I knew what to do.

My little cousins car wouldn’t crank once. He was like “cuz, the car won’t crank” I asked him how much money they put in the tank. Idiot put $5 in his tank and thought he could ride out all day.

I said man, you need GAS, that’s why it won’t crank.

Schools shouldn’t be responsible for this type of negligence.

There needs more vocational curriculums. Not just availability, but enforcement.
Addition to school budgeting, there's also still this stigma you can't amount to much in there n that's flat out wrong lol.

I believe America needs daily technology cap as well. Disconnect/unplug from all devices for a few hours out the day because social media usage and video games are really what’s messing a lot of these kids up. Technology is warping their brains

This is also the parents responsibility. Can't let the internet or TV or hip hop raise your children.

Nobody is disagreeing with you.

It SHOULD start at home.

It also should ideally be carried out in the school day as well.

Nobody said teachers should be the only one delivering those skills.

There are social workers and counselors in schools that can also deliver socio-emotional content.
