Boardwalk Empire Season 3 Thread - "Margate Sands" SEASON FINALE

Yall stretching this part. She didn't know Nucky was gonna kill him, at best get him messed up. Not kill. She didn't know that. Also, so what? If you guys recall he was beating her up after knocking her up daily cuz he was an angry drunk. Pretty sure she lost the child cuz of dude.

Exactly. She should feel bad a drunk wife-beater got handled?

What do you guys like about this show?

Based on your answers I will watch the first ep. tonight or I'll wait until I'm done watching Lost, Hell on Wheels, and Sons of Anarchy.

I agree with most of what Big J said, another great episode. A lot went on to really beef up the character profiles. Nucky's juggling seemed clearly meant to symbolically represent his character, constantly juggling everything around him. Margaret's song was also representative of her character. She sings "The Belle of Belfast." Just the first verse which goes:

Tell my ma when I go home,
The boys won't leave the girls alone,
They pulled my hair and stole my comb,
But that's all right 'till I go home.
She is handsome, she is pretty
She is the belle of Belfast city,
She is courting, one two three
Please won't you tell me who is she?

I think it's basically a metaphor for her situation (the three she's courting) being married to Nucky, smashing Owen and wanting the Doctor.

And does no one want to talk about the obvious motif of saying grace? Nucky/Eli and the fam, Gyp and his fam, Harrow and the soldiers, Harrow by himself, Jillian and Bizarro Jimmy. This episode definitely had a ton of religious overtone, aside from just Gyp's masterful monologue. I'd have to watch it again to see what they were implying but I think they mostly just wanted to ground this episode with some spirituality.

Most underrated line of the episode was "show some leg" :lol

Dump lost. Pick up Boardwalk Empire and don't look back. You won't regret it.

What main element of BWE do you like?

All those shows I listed, I'm in the last season or current season.

Too late to abort then I guess. But anyways, BWE's best element is that it is very true to its period and covers a huge amount of ground. Politics, religion, race, crime, history, etc. and it does so tying everything together very neatly. On top of that the acting and direction are top notch.

Do you watch the show? FutureMD is wrong. And to clarify...how many crazy women beg for the wrath of a man and receive it, cry foul, but as soon as cops come they be like "i fell officer..thats ma babies daddy..he loves me officer". She definitely didnt want him killed and didnt even know what was gonna happen to him. Hence why nucky wanted eli not to screw up when dumping the body...i dont know the exact dialogue but nuck said somethin like (to eli) "make it look like he just left home". She then had NO CHOICE but to move in with the n_ with all the money n power and oh, the charm leading the womens rights.

Just watched the first ep.

It seems interesting so far.

Watching shows like this such as Hell on Wheels are like seeing small elements of my history book come to life.

I'm looking forward to seeing the other small tidbits of history that are embedded in this show.

"Read a book."

That scene when Gillian sticks the heroine in dude

.  Not gonna lie, I didn't think she was gonna kill him, I just thought she wanted to take care of him like she did with Jimmy, especially after his story of defending the girl.

@ Margaret, once again she blames Nucky and doesn't think about how she cheated first...
Chick is on bird status.

Had her first husband murked, cheated first, and wrote off all that money to the church.
This chick is running wild, not to mention I'm tired of seeing Teddy and Emily.  **** it, let Gyp take out the family...

they should rename Boardwalk Empire to "The Power of the P."

Dam the women on this show are ruthless megalomaniacs.

Great episode, but im starting to miss the Van Alden and Capone storyline.

Thank you for pointing this out because I totally forgot to. The first thing I noticed and said to myself about the episode was I loved they were using Easter as the setting for the story. Besides the obvious religious connections you mention, it gave the episode a sense of unity and equality because we see how all these characters deal with the holiday. Whether it's dealing with family (Gyp and his sisters/mom, Nucky and Eli re-uniting, Richard and his loneliness, Gillian alone) or their relationship with God (the vet's disappointment and frustration, Gyp's FURIOUS ANGER, Richard, etc.") Seeing all the characters go through the same events, family, food, prayer, the aftermath made for a really interesting episode.

When Harrow first asked Gillian how she was feeling and she said 'murderous' I knew it was a wrap from there....

Like how Nucky ended his conversation commenting on family with Eli ('the kids had a good time today') after promoting him.....

Gyp was about to straight off dude, Gyp's look on his face and then ole boy changing his mind and sitting down to eat with the family was priceless

I see some kind of showdown b/t Harrow and Gillian down the line possibly.....Nucky could have a hand in this twist as well obviously, I'm just interested to see how Gillian reacts to Harrow's new companion when she finds out....think we all know which way Harrow will lean if Gillian begins to meddle

Why do good  shows have to do this to me everytime? hahaha

To be honest I was getting really pissed with the soap opera like antics, the whole womens clinic subplot and  all the loose ends. I guess with Jimmy being gone there's no one for Nucky to really go against.  But the last episodes...holy ..sh#@. Just when I was really wishing they would kill off Maggie's character......DAMN. Plus... Rosetti is coming for real.

I'm halfway through season 1.

I like this show's dialogue.

That's it for now.

wait, did Gillian know that Jimmy had done heroin? because I don't recall anyone knowing He used, so if not its just a coincidence

Gyp had that fear in his eyes, son was a few breaths away from catchin that fade. I knew Jilian would kill dude, least dude got some yambs before he kicked the bucket. Wonder where this will leave Harrow. I need more Al and Chalky in this season. I don't care about Nucky and his thirst for Billie. They could fill Margaret's foolishness w/ more of the afore mentioned

New episode tonight.. called "The Pony"

My prediction: A pony gives Gyp a mean stare and he shoots it in the face.

I'm now on season 2.

Surprisingly, I don't strongly dislike any character.

They all seem to serve a distinct purpose.

I was watching some cast interviews and I unknowingly saw a spoiler in the related video section.

It was a video of Jimmy dying. SMH

Luckily, it was just that so I don't know how or who kills him.
