G-Unit Is Working On A New Project
One of the biggest moments of this past Sunday (June 1) at Hot 97′s Summer Jam 2014 was seeing the reunion of G-Unit during 50 Cent’s set. Even though the fight that broke out on stage took some of the attention away from the actual reunion, seeing Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, Young Buck and Fif all together was a sight to see. 24 hours after their performance G-Unit dropped a new record called “Nah I’m Talking Bout,” a freestyle on Hit-Boy and his HS87 crew’s “Grindin My Whole Life” instrumental. But the question remained as to whether or not the reunited group would put out a new project.
Last night, at the after-party for the screening of the new Starz series Power, executive produced by 50 Cent, XXL put that question to all four original members of G-Unit. “We got no dates, we working,” said Young Buck. “[We] in the studio. Stay tuned.”
Banks added, “Work in progress. We just put out the new freestyle today. Check it out.”
Not too very long ago, a G-Unit reunion seemed impossible. When 50 Cent was on The Breakfast Club in March, he compared Yayo and Banks to “milk,” which prompted Yayo to respond by saying he, not 50, was the one who made G-Unit’s brand. Banks over the past couple of years became a ghost, rarely seen until a video of him in South America hit the web. Buck—after serving an 18-month sentence on weapons charges—was released from prison back in October 2013 and in January of this year said he didn’t care about a G-Unit reunion. So what changed? “We just sat at the table, and it happened—that’s it,” said Yayo. “It feels good. We’re brothers. There’s nothing we can’t work out. Brothers fight all the time. We just dropped a new record [yesterday]. We working. We just taking it one day at a time.”
For 50, with his new album, Animal Ambition, out today and Power premiering on Starz this Saturday at 9 p.m., G-Unit reuniting is the icing on the cake. “Being able to bring everybody out to actual shows is not difficult for me,” said 50. “I can do it. I have a compass, a moral compass that comes from my corner on 134th Street. We supposed to behave and respond to each other a certain way. We supposed to hustle to eat. We supposed to get what we supposed to get, not have things handed to us because nobody never gave me nothing. It may be my fault for enabling them at points. I expected them to continue to get what they want immediately. And then now having everybody back in the circle, the morale is great. They all ready to work. They been on ice long enough. So now you should expect [something]. You already got something new today. It didn’t take but a few hours after the show. Meltdown, it’s on now. It don’t take as much out of me as it takes for me to create a solo song than to create and participate in a G-unit record. We have so many moving parts on it and everybody got to show up.”
Nascent & QB—producers who worked on the song that everyone is buzzing about, “Flip On You” featuring ScHoolboy Q, off of the deluxe version of Animal Ambition—also confirmed that a G-Unit project is happening. “Right now we’re working on the new 50, J. Cole, Wale and Count from L.E.P. Bogus Boys” said Nascent. “The new album and also the new G-Unit project we‘ve been working on. We have a good relationship with them over there. We always send them new music, but that right now is a thing we’re focused on.”
Added QB, “We making sure we have our hand in that.” G-Unit is back.
