But you should post it in the Sonics thread.

Agreed, so I’ll bring it around to something we can all have a good laugh about. That play really just reminds me of how Jerome James parlayed one good series (he got destroyed by the Spurs in the second round, and was a non-factor) into a $30 million contract with the Knicks. That never stops being funny.

Part of me thinks this has to be shopped but

There's a couple of ways to look at it.

1.) They have a personal vendetta against KJ and Sacramento, which is what we all think this is about.

2.) If they openly said they want to rescind their contractual agreement with Hansen/Ballmer, even with the $30 million binding, they'd probably face a pretty big lawsuit which could probably be filed under breach of contract.

I'm not eliminating number 2, but I'm pretty sure its personal for those bums.

It appears it's #1 considering the tweets from @SacTownRoyalty tonight. They're accusing KJ of going back on his word on the arena a couple years ago. The irony is that KJ has actually multiplied his political capital in this process.

I also couldn't help noticing their hipocracy again in this whole thing claiming that Hansen/Balmer were the compassionate ones by promising to pay the Arco employees for the next 18 months and the Sacramento ownership group didn't. If they were really concerned about them, why not keep the team in town and they could all have their jobs indefinitely?

If that's the case, I hope they keep talking. It won't be a surprise if they Maloof themselves.

The Maloofs' war on good PR continues.

The Maloofs ... they are too good to be made up. If they appeared in fiction, you would say, "No, they are too ridiculous. That's unreasonable. That can't be real." Alas, this is real life, and here they are.

Remember April 3, when the Maloofs refused comment on the situation, citing the NBA's gag order. And then someone asked an NBA spokesman about the gag order ... and the NBA spokesman said, "What gag order?" And then all sorts of stuff started leaking out of the corners of the Maloofs' mouths.

This can't be real.

The latest nonsense is the letter the Maloofs submitted to the NBA urging the Board of Governors to just approve the Seattle deal already. The letter claims that the Sacramento offer doesn't match up, and questions whether Vivek Ranadivé and pals have enough money to pull the deal. (I mean ... REALLY?) And of course, David Stern put all of that to bed on Friday afternoon, calling the offers financially comparable and indicating that the league is comprehensively reviewing everything.

I never want to hear anyone claim the Maloofs care about Sacramento again. I understand why Kevin Johnson pumps them up; it's unrequited respect. They are out for themselves, and they sold whatever they had left of their souls for $30 million. Basically, that's what this comes down to: the Maloofs have to advocate for the Seattle resolution, because they so needed cash they took $30 million from Chris Hansen in January. What cheap dates. They became mercenaries inside the Board of Governors for a Jason Thompson contract.

(And if what former Sacramento radio guy Tim Montemayor tweeted Friday -- that during the Board of Governors meeting the Maloofs accused KJ of lying repeatedly in 2012 to make them look bad -- is true, they are even worse. Which I hadn't thought possible.)

The great thing is that the Maloofs and their hired gun, Eric W. Rose, are so bad at this that it's plainly obvious what's going on. That's why Stern feels comfortable basically ignoring them: they are too inept to actually cause problems. They are so bad at (apparently) everything that the threat they'll actually convince enough owners to dismiss Sacramento outright is laughable. I mean, there's a reason that despite the Maloofs' written request no vote was conducted Friday ... right? The Maloofs asked for immediate resolution in favor of the Seattle, and the Maloofs received two more weeks of uncertainty. Congratulations, you're impotent. Well done, fellas.

:lol KJ lied to them that's why they pulled out? Stern said the deal was good for all parties involved, are they calling him a liar? They only had to put in $73 million, $67 million was going to be fronted for them by the league. They weren't lied to they're just flat broke.

Keep talking though its gonna get Maloofed :lol

Sacramento's secret weapon is the Maloof's.
Seriously. If we have any hope in this whole thing it's going to be that they managed to bungle a RECORD deal for an NBA team that they brokered in the dead of night and didn't get the revenge they wanted out of the whole thing. Once again, if they were really concerned about the city like they said, they would have quietly sold the team and funded an election campaign for someone against KJ. Not sell the team and give him more political capital in the process.

If the Maloofs keep Maloofing around, Hansen and the Seattle group are going to need to hire an assassin to take out the Maloofs before they Maloof everything up there for them :lol

I got so drunk last night, I was Maloof faced

Its still up in the air. But I think it'll come down to the legalities and timeline of both cities' arena plans.

We should find out for sure by the first week of May

Aaron Bruski @aaronbruski

One of the Maloofs' recent leaks has been that they could keep the franchise, something that league sources have said is a non-starter.

Tim Montemayor@TheMontyShow 1h

There is an effort to satisfy both cities in the #NBAKings saga: I am told there is a plan being talked about where #Seattle would ...
Tim Montemayor@TheMontyShow 1h
...get an expansion team in 201*****15 and most of the requirements for that process are already met through the current
Tim Montemayor@TheMontyShow 1h

The #NBA has gone to great lengths to find a way to satisfy both situations without creating more "disfunction and animosity" in either city
Tim Montemayor@TheMontyShow 1h

The lone sticking point is the #Seattle groups willingness to wait another year which I am told they have fought hard against #NBAKings
Tim Montemayor@TheMontyShow 1h

I have also confirmed via two sources that David Stern has told #Seattle this is the only path that assures an #NBA return to the market
Tim Montemayor@TheMontyShow 1h

Stern has made it clear he will not push or force any other club to relocate to #Seattle he feels the process is bad 4 all parties involved
If this is true, is there any reason why Seattle shouldn't settle on letting the Kings stay? It's a win-win for both cities & the NBA with the Moneyball strategy and global strategy of Ranadive, and the market size of Seattle.

And the aversion to relocation is no myth. Moving teams fosters the image of instability and generates tremendous ill will among fans. The Sacramento-Seattle debate has led to a spitting contest in two quality NBA cities: an incumbent with a loyal following, improving economy and impressive investor group, and no competing major sports franchise within 90 miles; the other with an even more formidable ownership possibility and standing as the No. 1 target for an existing or expansion franchise since the Sonics relocated to Oklahoma City five years ago.
Kings officials have been directed to prepare marketing and season ticket plans for next season. Further, the 2013-14 NBA preseason schedule includes the annual game against the Lakers in Las Vegas. Key team employees – many of whom have been pursuing other jobs because of the lingering uncertainty – also are being urged to sit tight.
I'm curious as to who these Kings officials are who are urging the staff to stay in tact. I don't trust the Maloof's, but who else inside the organization would have imput into the leaning of the board? Are they proceeding as normal since Hansen/Balmer have promised to pay them for 18 months anyways? and Vivek & Co would likely keep them in place through the new season anyways?

New Arena drawings. I LOVE the field house look to it. Should make for a great experience for the day events there.

Clay Bennett did the same thing with the Sonics in 08.

Hell they were still taking season ticket deposits in June before ultimately leaving in July. So I'm not going to take too much credence in this.

And to the Tim Montemayor tweets..... if it was anybody else I'd be jumping up and down, but I dunno how much I'm willing to believe until a Sam Amick or Ryan Lillis or even Aaron Bruski cosign him

Carmichael Dave on twitter did mention that none of his sources refute Montemayor's tweets, but wouldn't confirm it either they just said  "sounds right".... also dousing salt on myself

Again, expansion is not on the table until 2016, when terms of a new TV deal are going to be known. That means you're looking at the 2017-18 season for a new team (possibly two). Considering the current MOU has a five-year life span, Chris Hansen can't wait that long (and, honestly, neither can basketball fans here). Another five years without the NBA in Seattle, and the NBA might as well just forget about it as a market (all over again).

Ya, I'm hoping if they do go with that, it's just on one side. I like how the seats are right on top of the court though. It'll definitely play into Sacramento's advantage with the fans once they get loud in there. Hopefully they'll keep the acoustics similar to Arco/Sleeptrain so the Kings can preserve the "Arco Thunder" mantra. I was never there, but I heard that Arco 1 was even louder than the current arena.

I think some of the anti-arena folks were trying to raise a big **** with not enough parking.......

maybe they should do some research first before opening their mouths?

or before Chris Daniels report on their anti-arena rhetoric

I had good chat w/Sac Asst City Mgr John Dangberg @ an Enviromental Impact Report mtg tonight at City Hall...
— Bryan May (@BMayNews10) April 25, 2013
Dangberg told me the city has been in contact w/NBA attorneys all week and are getting asked the right kinds of questions.
— Bryan May (@BMayNews10) April 25, 2013
Dangberg said City is moving full steam ahead with arena plans & on target for an opening Sept or Oct. 2016.

I love how our local and state government has been involved in all this
