The man was also an army man....so while he has done a lot for black people he also has the old school mentality towards service and doesn't necessarily see that they can use his feelings about the army to dampen Colin's current valid stance. He's entitled to his opinion but the right and wrongs of the issue overcome anything and anybody, including those who may have lead the charge. That generational gap is being used against them.
