Condo Collapse in Florida, 4 Dead 159 Missing...

That’s sad as hell. I couldn’t imagine just being at home in your apartment kicking back and something like that happens suddenly and unexpectedly.

No warning at all :frown:
We had that happen during the 1994 Northridge earthquake where some apartments pancaked and folks died in their beds. Sad stuff man.

I remember the northridge earthquake. Was sleeping, woke up to it and everyone was in panic mode. I lived in the South Bay so we didn’t get as bad as it got in northridge and close by. But still some crazy stuff.

I guarantee it's a newer structure. New buildings cut so many corners. Thin walls, cheap materials etc.

I think they said the land it sat on had been sinking a few mm’s since the 90’s. Makes sense how it finally happened thirty years later.

they had an engineer talking about it could be corroded/rusted steele
unfortunately, once one part fails, the cement just collapses

People had complained about the safety of this building years ago. Apparently they just put a band-aid over it and went about their business. If the collapse was the result of the failure to properly address the issues then there is going to be hell to pay.

Reminds me of the movie flight. One service order for a small part got buried under paperwork and caused a catastrophe.

America does this with A LOT of infrastructure.

Then i75 bridge crossing the Ohio is one of the worst bridges in America yet they will not fix it because neither Ohio and Kentucky wants to fork up the cash.

That bridge will collapse before they build a new one.

So it’s cheaper to pay and settle lawsuit than do the work to address the structural issues?
I’m not a socialist but sometimes capitalism can be corrupt.

Edit: can’t take you serious. Sorry.

Anyways, I hope they find some survivors. It’s heartbreaking to see this be such a slow process.
