So Gasol was considered the best pf in the league before he joined the Lakers? His best year statistically was 2010-11 & this is why? Kobe is such a threat that Pau's game has blossomed to the point that he's considered the best at his position. Kobe has made Pau better...

grin.gif
Check Gasol's 05-06 and 06-07 numbers. In 06-07, the last full season before he joined the Lakers he averaged 20.8 points on .538 shooting, 9.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 blocks in 36.2 minutes. Gasol was still developing as a player. The biggest and only stat difference between Gasol in Memphis and Gasol in L.A. are his rebounding numbers, mainly offensive rebounds. So really, the biggest way Kobe has helped Gasol's stats is by his constant brick-laying that allows him to get more rebounds, as is evident in his extremely underrated bailout performance in game 7 of the finals where he grabbed 9 offensive rebounds, just two shy of Dennis Rodman's record set in the 96 finals.

In the end, they obviously fed off each other and had more success when they hooked up, but if you REALLY want to start talking about who helped who more, then check out this fact:

Kobe prior to Pau: 45 and 42 win seasons and first round exits.

Pau prior to Kobe: 50 and 49 win seasons and first round exits.

Gasol is the perfect teammate for Kobe stans. Helps his team win tremendously, yet even when he grabs 20 rebounds in a game he'll somehow always be a soft euro and will never steal the spotlight from Kobe, who in turn will always get the credit for the Lakers wins. Gasol is even more underrated and less threatening to Kobe than Pippen was to Jordan in this aspect.
so kobe's poor shooting resulted in gasol's offensive rebounding numbers. then dennis rodman's offensive rebounding outage in '96 finals came from jordan's weak performance against the sonics? .415% fg from jordan in '96 against .432% from kobe in 2010

Yes. That's where Rodman's offensive rebounds came from. Michael Jordan didn't play well in the 96 finals.

And Kobe didn't shoot .432, he shot .405.

WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE TWO YEARS THAT KOBE TEAMS LOST IN THE FIRST ROUND, PLEASE NAME THE PLAYERS ON THAT ROSTER.

THANK YOU.

Kwame Brown  Starter
Luke Walton  Starter
Smush Parker Starter
Deven George  First guy off the bench
Chris Mihm, Best big on the team perma injured at that
Brian Cook, 3 point "specialist"
Andrew Bynum, Rookie, never played
Ronny Turiaf, Rookie, heart condition, never played
Aaron McKie, vet, retired, didn't play
Sasha Vujacic, second year, played a lot. -hellllllllloooo

And then Koke and Lamar Odom.

THESE ARE THE TEAMMATES YOU ARE JUDGING KOBE ON FOR "NOT DOING ANYTHING" WITHOUT SHAQ OR GASOL.

Buy a @#$%^&* clue people.  You guys sound so stupid the more you repeat how much of a failure that guy was for two years of him playing with straight BUMS.  Does anyone even realize that the highlight of the 07 offseason was the Lakers bringing back Derek freaking Fisher?????  That was THE BEST move we had made in 3 years.  Think about that.  That was how down our talent was at that time.  And people honestly try to sit here and claim that those years, THOSE 2 years, have more to do with Kobe's career then the other 13?  For reals?

Whatever.

Kobe goes on to do more work this stage of his career, he's going to make all these ridiculous claims look that much more stupid.  Let the hate reign down, especially when most of these losers claim alleginace to "the King" of not winning anything, the dude that is 0-fer his career in terms of winning anything.  But yeah, Kobe had two bad years, he sucks.

^ you're forgetting the year he missed the playoffs (where caron butler was on the team)

and some of you do not realize how weak the PF/C position is in today’s game.. seriously, how many big men compare to gasol right now? hell, all of you lakers' fans, how many big men would you trade gasol straight up for?

is it just a coincidence that gasol's arrival manifested in 3 finals appearances for the lakers?

you kobe homers really need to relax and take an objective look at this thing.. in arguably 4 out of the 5 championships the lakers have won with kobe, he wasn't the most vital player to the teams success (yes, i believe gasol should have gotten the finals MVP last year)

The main thing the all you Kobe lovers are forgetting is that for the first half part of his NBA career, Kobe played the role of Robin.  Nothing wrong with that of course, just stating facts.  Now Kobe hit some big shots and stepped up in some games and even in some playoff series but he wasn't the guy that carried his team to the playoffs or the championship, it was Shaq, and alot of you Kobe lovers seem to be forgetting that, I wonder why that is.  For all the other greats that have been mentioned, they never played the role of Robin like Kobe has.  Whether it be Jordan, Magic, or Bird, etc....they where the main force or factor for their squad.  You dudes are getting #8 and #24 confused, or even trying to join the two as one in the same.

Now with that being said, Kobe is a great player and one of the greatest of all-time, no doubt about it.
all i know is if Kobe wins another ring, hes a lock for top 5.
LOL.

without kobe shaq wouldnt even have as many championships as he does. and uhm you forgot about kareem? magic had an amazing performance cause kareem had an ankle injury. the #1 option for the showtime lakers wasnt magic. it was kareem. so what you're saying isnt right. both magic and kobe had the same problem, playing with a talented center. both kareem and shaq were the $1 option on their team for good reasons, not taking anything away from the talent that both magic and kobe had. but people know it's a lot harder to win with guards/wings than with big men. players get tired affecting their gameplay, yet height is something that will stay, no matter how tired you are

By the time the Lakers drafted Magic Kareem was at the end of his career,  while Kobe on the other hand played with Shaq in his PRIME.  Not to mention that Shaq is Top 3 when it comes to the most dominating basketball players ever.  See the difference.  You wanna try this again champ??

were a good fit.....Of course they dont go to 3 straight finals with Drew alone, but dont pretend Pau rescued him from the abyss either.

Be honest what do you expect if Kwame is your staring center, seriously ?

You don't pretend without Pau they're finals contenders or even contenders at all.
They were still gonna be doing absolutely nothing without getting Pau. You said it yourself last sentence.

And what has Pau gotten much better at that you can credit Kobe with helping him do? I'm curious please tell me.

What the @#$% are you even talking about?

Kobe was 20 @#$%^&* years old when he was winnin chips with Shaq, how the blue @#$%^ is that "prime"?

And Kareem was on his last legs......that's why he played a damn decade with Magic.

You people baffle me.  I've come to realize, it will never matter.  It will never be enough.

"Kobe shouldn't have won the MVP in 06, he was on a bad team."  So he's on a good team in 08 and wins, but he shouldn't have won that one either.
"Kobe will never win a title without Shaq"  He does, but it's still not enough.
Kobe wins back to back, and now it was Gasol's MVP, and Kobe can't win without Shaq OR Gasol.
eyes.gif

Kobe sucks because he played with bums for 3 years and that taints his legacy.
Kobe isn't better then Vince, TMac, Bron, Wade, Iverson, etc etc etc etc and on and on and on and yet, NONE of them have his credentials.  Bron ain't even got a single solitary Finals victory, not a series, a Finals GAME, he doesn't even have one, but yeah, he's great.  But when he wins something (if he ever does) then those will be Wade's accomplishments, right?
nerd.gif

It just doesn't matter.  He's back to back now, something Bird, nor Duncan have ever done in their life, but yeah, Kobe is just a Robin, and he rides the coatails of a dude named Shaq, who never won til Kobe came around, and Pau mr 0-12 in his playoff career til he joined the Lakers, but yeah, none of that has to do with Kobe.

He goes on to win 6-7 titles, 30K points, all time NBA playoff scoring leader, most playoff games all time, wins, series wins, 6K boards and assists, couple thousand 3's, tons of LA LAKER records, not Clipper records, and yeah, he's a career second fiddle.  These are the arguments of various NTers.

Gee, I dunno.....how about the fact that late in the game they can't afford to double Pau or leave Kobe during the pick and rolls that they run.

Maybe that takes some of the pressure off Gasol, since he isn't asked to deliver late in games.  Or that he isn't the primary focus of each and every single defense the Lakers play, sorta like when he was in Memphis, and everybody just guarded him and forced the other Grizz to beat them.

Yeah, Kobe hasn't helped Pau out in the least.  Not at all.

It isn't that Kobe taught Pau how to dribble a basketball, or taught him a specific skill set genius, it's what he ALLOWS Pau to do within the flow of the game.  It's the space he creates for Pau.  Doesn't take a damn rocket scientist to figure this stuff out.

People friggin killin me with this crap.

people love to forget that the lakers upgraded from smush to fisher, the young guys (Bynum, Farmar, and Vujacic) came of age, and the lakers were rolling before Drew got hurt and Pau was aquired.

FINALLY, someone who knows something comes in and speaks up.  Also add, they traded for Ariza.

Bye bye George, Mihm, Parker and Cook
In come Ariza, Fisher, and youth growth process in Bynum, Farmar, and Sasha.

THEN

They make the deal for Gasol after Bynum gets hurt.  And the rest as they say, is history.

It wasn't Kobe and bums, then add Gasol and poof, it was a collection of slow moving upgrades, and then adding Pau was the final touch.

But yeah, nobody will ever talk about that, they try to keep it quiet, and pretend that it was all Gasol trade that imrpoved the Lakers.
