Destiny Thread (Bungie) - 9/9/14

I'm mad i didn't play enough SRL when it came around. All the rolls on the helmets i got for my Hunter are trash.

A new character named Tyra Karn is the centerpiece for Guardians looking to acquire the new Iron Lord artifacts. She sends players out into the Plaguelands to commit mighty deeds in memory of the Iron Lords – a task that should be pretty straightforward for anyone who engages with the new content. Upon completing that task, you gain an item called the Iron Lords’ Legacy, which in turn can be used to acquire one of three artifacts Tyra has on offer in any given week. Over the course of eight weeks or more of play, you should be able to acquire all eight new artifacts.

Each of these artifacts has a game-changing ability attached to it. One offers the option to melee enemy units and gain their allegiance for a short time. A second artifact eliminates your super, but gives you two grenades, two melees, and an increase in all your stats. Each of the artifacts can be combined with exotic weapons and armor, as well as subclasses, to create new and interesting build options. Moreover, every one of the new artifacts is meant to evoke the character of the Iron Lord for which it is named. For instance, Jolder tended to charge headlong into danger, so her artifact eliminates the sprint recharge delay.

Light level cap is 385 and then 400.

Character level is staying at 40, but light values are now jumping from the current cap of 335 up to 385. That cap will be further increased to 400 when the hard mode version of the raid launches some weeks after Rise of Iron’s launch.

Rise of Iron record book

A new Rise of Iron Record Book now tracks your progress through the entirety of the expansion, echoing similar systems that were used for last year’s SRL event, or the more recent Moments of Triumph for Year 2. This record book has discrete tasks to be completed throughout the Rise of Iron content, and completing any task adds to your overall percentage completion of the record book. Reach designated percentage completion points, and you gain new armor, emblems, and more.

New Gear & Ornaments

In addition, Bungie shared that it is releasing a large number of new weapons and complete armor sets. New sets are on offer for the Iron Banner PvP event, the Iron Lords (obtained through the Record Book), Trials of Osiris, the Wrath of the Machine raid, and the new Archon’s Forge arena event, in addition to new options for all the factions. Bungie also introduced us to ornaments, a new aesthetic customization feature that allows players to enhance the geometry and appearance of individual armor pieces, as well as change the appearance of exotic weapons.

Artifacts:
Reflect energy-based projectiles
Highlight super-holding and low-health enemies
No sprint cooldown
Reduce damage-over-time effects
No super, but extra grenade and melee - orbs charge abilities
Third eye
Speed up super recharge for nearby allies
Turn "lowpower minions of darkness" into allies for 30 seconds

Finally, this year’s PlayStation exclusive map is Icarus, a solar-collection site on Mercury. The arena is the raised structure at the center of the much larger crater-like array. Its circular shape inevitably funnels into furious conflagrations at the center.

Supremacy is straightforward – kill enemies to make them drop a crest. Your team only scores if someone (you or a teammate) picks up that crest. Enemy team members can also pick up the crest to deny your score, but they won’t gain any points themselves.

Wait a minute..........is that the same as that one COD PvP game where you have to "capture" kills?

:smh:

I think $20 would've been better.

Still going to cop Destiny made addicting.

How could you ascribe a price to content in which you have no concrete idea as to the size and scope of said content?

:rolleyes

I just figured since Destiny 2 drops early next year that this DLC wasn't going to be a big one.

But you're right I don't know the scope of the DLC but $20 would've been the perfect price.

It doesn't matter though because the people still playing are most likely going to get it.

Hate to break it, but Destiny 2 is slated for Q3 2017.

Deej mentioned this in the reveal of the April Update back in the spring, and has been echoed by Jason Schrier, among others...

They said it'll be smaller than TTK and about the size of the 2 previous DLCs. I think 30 is an okay price point for that size then. Since those DLCs were 20 a piece.

Oh I thought it was early 2017 :smh:

Bungie stay with the delays like they did when they were making Halo games

Could have sworn I read that it was bigger than TTK. This is supposed hold us over until Destiny 2 :rolleyes

To continue being a contrarian, I think it's really hard to make assumptions about development windows moving forward, especially with Bungie leaving old-gen behind. We were told after TTK dropped that making changes to the universe required a ton of resources and time because they needed to make compatible changes for 4 different platforms. (There was also discussion of how slow very, very small changes were being adopted because of technical constraints.)

Further, it is the Live Team that spearheaded this expansion meaning that, after TTK, the 'Raid Team' (Luke Smith) are not the only teams working on content under this new Regime at Bungie. This leads me to believe that, while it's very likely that the major content contributors are looking ahead to Destiny 2, it's not a foregone conclusion that we won't see something new before Q3 2017. My guess is that we'll see multiple content refreshers (i.e. April Update) to stem the tide until a full game release in September. And with the coming announcement of Custom Matches, IB changes, and continued support for Live events (I also am speculating that there will be a 'Live PvE' event coming), I think we'll be in a much better position when 'content lulls' hit than in previous years.
