F1 Official Thread - Grand Prix of Britain

MB screwed the pooch by not pitting in either one of the safety cars.

they lost the tactical battle. No way Max passes him if they had CLOSE to the same tyre wear.

they couldn’t pit because red bull would have just left Max out to take the lead. They had no choice but to leave him out.

I still can’t get over unlaping everyone between Max and Lewis but not everyone between Sainz and Max. Carlos had every right to fight the win as well. An absolute disgrace.

Finally got to watch the race. Cannot believe the way Masi said "**** it all" and let the lapped cars race ahead. Feel bad for Max cause this is going to have an asterisk next to it forever, if for nothing other than the controversy. Feel bad for Lewis and Merc cause they got blindsided like a mother ****er. What a ****show.

It comes down to track position. It is never easy to give up your P1 in a situation like that cuz RBR would have left Max out. Had they extended the SC period, then they would have handed the lead/win to RBR.

This kinda reminds me of Lando at Sochi. While the circumstances were very different, ppl kept on saying he should have boxed for Inters... but, again, track position played a part of it. It's such a difficult decision to make when you're leading the race. Lewis, like Max, didn't have anything to lose sitting in P2. Merc (with their weather info) took the risk of Inters the same way RBR did so with their Softs.

Meanwhile... seeing a lot of backlash on yesterday's result/FIA... and justifiably so. Ironic since they tried so hard to 'improve the show', but this completely backfired. They better clean this mess up before the '22 season or risk being a joke of a championship.

yeah as Jolyon said post race as well, Merc had no choice but to stay out.
not gonna lie, I preferred seeing the race end in racing. But Lewis deserved
to win that one...

FIA needs to improve their **** next season. Too many inconsistencies and
dumb*** penalties. Whenever we see any type of action a penalty gets thrown.
Perez-Norris-Leclerc action were blessed with penalties in Austria. Any bold
move is disincentivized it seems like, but even that changes every GP.

Lewis had to be looking at Latifi like this after the race:
