Filipino Culture Thread

The wal mart around my way is probably 90% Filipino employed. (Milpitas).

Best wal mart I’ve been to, Clean, always stocked, great customer service.

Then again there is also a McDonald’s that 90% Filipino employed, and they are shady on their sauce and napkins. Lol.

Great history book on pre colonial philippines by way of tattoo

As you guys might have noticed from my posts I'm very passionate about pre-colonial history, we are some of the few people on earth that can't be proud of anything before the 1500s because a majority of that history has been erased and taken from us

I agree, man. Learning about our pre-colonial history has become little to almost non-existent due to the fact that some educators back hom don't emphasize its importance. I'm guilty of it as well because it wasn't reinforced in my education and I occasionally get embarrassed when I find things out at an older age.

My nephews back home don't have a clue the significance of Lapu-Lapu in terms of helping vanquish the Spanish invasion in Cebu. There was one time when my girl and I went to Cebu to visit some of her relatives there, we decided to tour some of the spots and I kinda felt bad they only have the Magellan's Cross as one of the city's attractions.

One of the reasons why I view religion differently since colonizers used God to invade and erase some of culture (thanks to my Philosophy professor). I'm a Catholic but I never exploited God for personal gain and will never be.

Yeah, it's crazy what the Spanish did when they expanded around the globe. Especially with the influence they had in the PI.

I'm hoping I can make a trip back to the PI to just explore my family's lineage and historical areas in the PI. But that's a lot of money and have a hard time with that weather lol.

Makes me wonder if there are people who want to change the name of the country. You think about it and its named after the king of the invaders.

^ Go for it! It's something to look forward to (and to save A LOT of money for)

But it's definitely worth it. My mom would always bring up the idea of going home once or every two years but she couldn't do it for reasons, and she'd go on a monologue/guilt trip about it.

Yeah, that's one of my bucket list goals.

Probably bad of me, but I don’t really desire to go back anytime soon. Would rather visit new countries. If the flight was only 10-12 hours and I didn’t have to deal with bad jetlag for a week then i’d be down to go more often.

And that's another thing. The flight is way too long.

Where you at in Jersey? Heard they sell San Mig at Total Wine in River Edge if you're Northern NJ .

Y'all making me miss the Philippines. Born and raised in Jersey but visited the Philippine twice in the past few years and it was amazing both times.

Through ebay is your best bet, unless you have some contacts in the Philippines that are willing to send you some Gilas shirts. I remember when Manny was still under Nike, wore some of his Nike shirts to get a haircut at a Spanish barbershop and boy, some of 'em clowned me for it. I was a frequent so it was all cool. PR people there said that Cotto would murk Manny in a few rounds... welp

EDIT: my bro found a Manny hoodie at our local Marshall's here in MA a few years ago

My uncle brought me a DU30 shirt but I forgot sizing is all messed up in the PI. He brought me a XXL and it is OD tight on me. I'm usually a L/XL .

Learned behavior, every restaurant in the Philippines is shady with sauce and especially napkins. Ain’t no napkin dispensers in McDo but they got unli gravy  :smh:

I hoarded napkins wherever I could and kept them on me just in case
