Y’all would be surprised how much the mid-20s crowd romanticizes Marcos and Martial Law. They weren’t alive but all they know is “discipline” “low crime” “infrastructure projects”. Combined with the hatred of the Aquinos/liberal party/“dilawan” and you have Duterte stans.
These are the folks saying “if you don’t break any laws you’ll be ok”or they’re rich enough to not be affected by the authoritarian policy. Meanwhile poor folk getting gunned down in their homes and journalists getting locked up
Duterte has a strong cult behind him like Trump but those folks are more ignorant to reality so you can’t save them, they don’t wanna be saved.
Education is key, especially public education.
And last I checked.......Philippines is a 3rd world country for a reason BESIDES its corruption, it is fairly easy to get "low educated folk" on your side COMBINED with a brainwashed "boomer generation" that appeals to you as well.
Also combined with the "well-off population" of older millenial Filipinos that benefit from the "martial law-esque policies" DESPITE being well-educated enough (due to private schooling with that money of theirs) to know better.
Yep, perfect recipe for a majority of native homeland Filipinos to **** with Marcos & Duerte

Buy the lechon for the barangay fiesta, put up a hoop on the street and plaster your face everywhere you can and you'll get the votes.
Oddly, the war on drugs aka war on poor people and folks getting gunned down in drive-bys at night hasn't seemed to move the needle for the poor against Duterte.
You got me thinking, the extreme wealth inequality has got to be #1 underlying reason for this. You got the insane numbers of folks in poverty who are too busy trying to survive to pay attention to politics aside from getting free food whenever the congressman drives by, and then you got the crazy rich Pinoys who can easily buy their way out of trouble or are evil enough to believe in this douche (Congress, etc.).
Meanwhile the minority middle class are screwed.

DDS only matters if you are a small time drug dealer. If you are a big time drug dealer/politician with aligning political views as Duterte, you are safe.

I'm just here to report that the Trader Joe's ube ice cream was surprisingly good. I was expecting it to be overly sweet and down right disgusting, but I was very happy with it.
