FOOD THREAD VOL. GRUB LIFE

Is boba guys any different than the other boba spots? My cousin in norcal and some other folks I know hype it up hard and go out of their way to go there.

at least 3 times the size, much better decor. and way shorter wait time lol. we never learn our lesson about spiciness levels there
Just talked to the manager.

He said the old spot had a roof leak.
New spot has 20 fewer spots.
They have side areas that serve as "bar areas" that allow a first come first serve method of seating.

It was still packed as hell the 2 times I have came this week. 1 hour waits both times

I think Boba Guys are over rated. It's not your traditional Asian boba places. It's more hipsterish and americanized.

Wait what??? The old place was bigger? Lol it felt so cramped in there, and it was in a dumpy strip mall all the way north strip

Meh that’s disappointing. The ones in SoCal are kinda in hip areas so it makes sense though. I’ll pass.

The one in SF isn't in a hip area tho. It's borderline Chinatown and Union Square, right before the tunnel to Chinatown. There's barely any room to stand inside, The line goes out the door where the bus stops. But it has that hipster vibe to it.

One of the two here is in a gentrified/gentrifying area close to downtown, the other is in Culver City sorta ritzy city. If I’m ever in the area I’ll try it out but it sounds like it’s not worth going out of your way for.

It's really easy to make quick pickles. Just gotta sit on them for a couple hours to a day before they peak.

1/2 and 1/2 mix of water and vinegar, decent amount of sugar (I use about 1.5 tablespoons per batch), teaspoon of salt, bring to a boil/dissolve and immediately cut the heat. Pour the brine over whatever vegetable and add whatever you want to flavor them, wait until they get to room temp to jar them up, then refrigerate until you want to use them.

They don't last as long as pickles made the "traditional way," but they're ready in a fraction of the time and they're good for what they are. I usually discard the remainder after a week.

Burgers are 50/50 red/green lentil, roasted mushrooms, red miso paste, and a bunch of seasoning. Spread is Greek yogurt, lemon zest, garlic, cilantro, mint, red pepper, and black pepper. Greenery is arugula, pickled red onion, heirloom tomato, and pickled cucumber:
