Dessert at our fave cafe: Oasis

We got Pistachio Lattes. I got mine cold & SIL got hers hot. Both were great. Loved the fresh chopped Pistachio on top. We split a Baklava Cheesecake. Nice filling & nut spread. Love the interior of this spot.

This in Qnz?

Heard Rokstar Chicken in the Douglaston, Queens Food Bazaar had some new items. The honey butter chicken (it was okay, I prefer their other seasonings/sauces) and cream cheese balls (not bad especially with their new jalapeño Mayo)

I’ve never actually been to Oasis but I have ordered from them. They put in a lot of work into the packaging and bag. The baklava cheesecake is a must.

mastamind89 mastamind89 Yup, address is 196-30 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY 11358. Check them out if you get the chance. They renovated beautifully few years ago & the vibes are legit inside especially the upstairs area. Makes for a nice date spot. If you need rec's on what to get let me know.

masagipatron masagipatron Dine-in there sometime, you'll like it. Yeah their packaging & boxes are pretty neat. Try the rainbow cake pastry next time you order. The baklava cheesecake was really good, agreed. It was my 1st time trying it last night & it's very different from regular cheesecakes. Owner spared no costs in the renovation.

re: baklava

Structurally, I love it but every one I've come across was super sweet. Are there any items that are LIKE it but aren't AS sweet?

Think it’s gotten to the point where we need some new cookware. A lot of the nonstick stuff we got for our wedding has seen better days.

Anybody have anything they absolutely love? Been eying a couple things from Made In.

You ever try Kanafa/Kanafeh(same thing just spelled 2 different ways)? It's another Middle Eastern dessert item. Not as sweet as Baklava & has a totally different texture then it too. Worst Baklava I ever had was in Toronto. On the outside the items looked very vibrant & colorful but it was all just bland & tasteless on the inside.

i would just upgrade to the stainless steel cookware and not the non stick advertised stuff. it’s more akin to professional grade stuff so you will have to maintain it but it will last forever and you will notice a difference in your cooking. it sears so much better and heats up quicker. just gotta keep it oiled up and clean

i have some Dalstrong cookware you can find on amazon that’s built like a tank and cooks beautifully.

The our place skillet, pot, and my cast iron skillets are all I use these days. https://fromourplace.com/products/always-essential-cooking-pan

Too much other stuff with lots of toxins. Also recommend switching utensils to bamboo or mango wood

this is my biggest gripe with all the non stick stuff…from their website.

  • Use low-medium heat to preserve the nonstick coating — never heat an empty pan

i like ceramic for these heat points but if you want to get the temp up high it will degrade like other cookware. i think ceramics are good for pots but you def don’t wanna sear anything in there. whatever coating is on these ceramics that make it nonstick, comes off.

Yeah this looks good. I definitely don’t need a whole set of pots and pans as there’s only a few things I use and already have a cast iron skillet.

jape jape I wouldn’t use the non stick to cook everything. Do think it’s better for certain things than stainless though.

Yup for high heats that’s what I use my cast irons for.

Goddamn I wish I had that. Ventilation in my house is so trash. Can’t even sear anything real good without smoking up the house.
