at least she would've gotten her i.d. and the rest of the contents in her purse back. *shrugs*

but knowing my conscience, i probably would've done the same thing you did op. i really don't believe in karma though

in any case, good stuff man. this world needs more people like you. *tips hat*

Exactly. I would like to think I would have returned to money, but who knows.

And not that you did it for money, but she should have gave more than $5.

I cant believe some of the answers in here. I still think my way is the fairest. To take 20% and return the rest. I think someone even told me by law you are allowed to keep 20%. Think about it if you lost 500$ would you rather have someone take it all or give you back 400$?

I would have given it back not taking anything. Like someone else said a woman of that age wouldnt normally carry that amount of cash around just off gp. she probably had just withdrew it and needed it for something. You did a good thing. i am sure your reward will come in due time.

Good job OP.  If she only gave you $5, it's probably cause she needs the money.
Pay it forward.

If you lose money at a casino and someone finds it, the person that finds it will get arrested and charged for theft. There was a big newspaper article about it in my local newspaper a few weeks ago.
And as mentioned before if the person lived in the hood, I would have returned the money. IF they lived in a nice neighborhood, I would have kept the money and returned the purse.

I don't gamble much...let alone enough to have a 5K chip... but how do they know whose chip belongs to whom?

2 weeks ago i found some lady's purse and spent a half hour going through her +#*! to find where she might have worked, TOOK her %*$*+@$ purse to her workplace and gave it to her. You know what i got? NOTHING. Man, im tired of "doing the right thing". Thats all i ever do where the %%@# is my good "karma"? Nonexistant. This whole karma gig is a crock too...people experience good and bad in their lives, thats just the way life goes...if i "do the wrong thing" then 2 years later something bad happens it dont got +#*! to do with what i did 2 years prior.

In those situations, if you are already thinking of giving the money back, you are really not looking for a reward in your mind.

A sincere "Thank You" is enough. I know there a lot of atheist on NT, but I believe you are put on this earth as well, to help your fellow human when they are in need.

Yo you a good dude. Just be patient man... Karma doesn't happen just like that, give it some time.

But seriously though, NEVER do a good deed expecting something in return..
