free is free, you arent paying a dime. sign up and if you get picked you get a decent laptop to try out and keep.
Google is in the business of charity? Thanks for opening my eyes!
your clearly a criminal and or have something to hide.

you are using a computer right now, you ISP, firefox, google, what ever else can read anything off your computer any time they please. Oh yea and if the FBI want im sure they could do.

all google will do is know your using it and sites, not a big deal since they wont know your idenity.

lol @ "our clearly a criminal and or have something to hide."
Yeh my ISP/Web browser can do that. Except that it doesn't have a record of illegally spying like Google. That's the difference.

There's a bit of difference between giving a pistol to a convicted/known stick up kid and one to an average Joe.

Me too. I can't wait to email you from my CR-48 about how great my CR-48 is while you email me from your CR-48 telling me how great your CR-48 is.

edit: Actually I'm a little skeptical now that I see it's 4 pounds and looks full-sized. I thought it would be more akin to an iPad in terms of size.

C'mon people. There is no such thing as a free lunch in this world. You're always paying in 1 way or another. With something like this, it's your privacy.
Google and your ISP do this already anyways. Who cares? So they're going to see how much porn you download and how often you visit Niketalk, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter.

Until I see a string of incidents where they establish a precedent of taking that information and using it against you (i.e copyright infringement for music, porn, software downloads), I won't give a ##*%. I'm sure it has happened before, but it's not an everyday occurrence yet where I'm scared.

What do you mean use it against you? Their goal is to make a profit off of it. Not to use it against you.
If the feds/state want to use it against you then Google will give it up.

I understand that some folks don't give a *$@% about their privacy. It's a personal choice. Don't make it seem like it's normal though. It's not normal. It's just ignorance.

Again, so why care? You don't want them to make any money off of you? Your ISP would also gladly turn over any information on your browsing habits if the feds requested. So why should anybody care? Especially since the vast majority of users aren't going to have anything to hide.

I guessed you missed the part where Google was collecting wifi data via their Street view cars for 3 years illegaly.
Of course, it was a 3 year mistake and I'm sure that's the only instance.

They refused to hand over the data saying that doing so might expose them to even more legal action.
