LOS ANGELES -- USC freshman receiver Markeith Ambles has been suspended from the team indefinitely as a result of multiple late arrivals to team functions, two team sources confirmed Tuesday night.

USC spokesman Tim Tessalone referred requests for comment to coach Lane Kiffin, who was in a meeting after practice and unavailable.

Ambles, who was not at practice Tuesday, did not immediately respond to an e-mail requesting comment Tuesday night.

Ambles, a native of suburban Atlanta, has played sparingly this season, with one catch for 3 yards in four games. Last month, Kiffin said he actually had intended to redshirt Ambles but was unable to because Ambles had played three plays in the season opener against Hawaii.

In August, Ambles spent one early-morning practice doing rollovers alongside fellow freshman Dillon Baxter -- a punishment Kiffin later attributed to "tardiness."

Ambles, the fourth-ranked receiver in the 2010 class by ESPNU, first committed to play for Kiffin when he was the coach at Tennessee last year but switched to USC when Kiffin left to become coach of the Trojans.

According to the LA Times, USC head coach Lane Kiffin has suspended wide receiver Markeith Ambles and linebacker Simi Vehikite indefinitely.

Ambles' suspension was reportedly a result of being late to multiple team functions.  After attending Monday's practice, Ambles was noticeably absent from Tuesday's workout.

According to the report, Vehikite is also currently serving a suspension.

Kiffin told the LA Times' Gary Klein: "I've said before, we have extremely high standards of what we expect our student-athletes to do, and if someone doesn't want to maintain those standards … they're not going to be part of our program."

The suspensions are similar to the one handed down to freshman cornerback Patrick Hall earlier this fall.  Hall has since returned to the team.

Antrel Rolle and Eric Winston, who visited UM last week, aren't the only former Canes coming back. Former All-American safety Bennie Blades wants to come to campus to push Ray Ray Armstrong to be better. ``I told people Ray Ray will be the next Sean Taylor, and I expected more from him -- I will go down there and tell him,'' Blades said. ``Vaughn Telemaque is leaps and bounds ahead of him.'' Armstrong, a year behind Telemaque, has had some good moments, but JoJo Nicolas has been starting ahead of him.

OH and....

Kiffin said he actually had intended to redshirt Ambles but was unable to because Ambles had played three plays in the season opener against Hawaii.

What is CLK talking about? We have players every year that play in the first 2-3 games but then redshirt.

Washaun Ealey has a sprained MCL, but is still likely to play Saturday. Caleb King is back from suspension. Branden Smith should be back, too.

Campaign to get the Notre Dame fans to rush the field if they lose next Saturday

This year's senior class is 20-25 overall and are one loss away from the losingest class in ND history with four games yet to play

Letter to the Editor in independent Notre Dame school newspaper:

When we get steamrolled by Utah on Nov. 13, we will officially be the losingest class in Notre Dame History. That day will also be Senior Day, a day that the senior class is allowed on the field at the end of the game. The senior class should not walk onto the field, but storm the field in celebration of its four seasons as spectators in the student section. The senior class should show its thanks and appreciation for a record-breaking four seasons by storming the field at the closing of the loss to Utah on Nov. 13.

because he's "injured" right now, and only played 3 games this year (30% or less needed).

He did not make an appearance after Michigan's fourth game of the season, and if the NCAA were to accept U-M's documentation of an injury, Gardner might be a freshman (redshirt, that is) all over again next year.
