I got a 32 inch westinghouse tv a few months back and I've finally gotten around to buying the HDMI cable for my PS#. But when  i try to connect it from the PS3 to the TV, an error message comes up on the play station saying that the cable was not found.

Onkyo 607 is probably the best bang for buck receiver out now

good looking...what are your thoughts on sound bars?

^^^ i went to go listen to the sony ct-500 and it sounded like !*++...
trust with the set up that mondaynight is telling you about i would rather go with this... its cheaper and if you end up going into a bigger room just connect the rest of the speakers..

Onkyo_HS_S7200b_front_300_610x407.jpg

The good: 7.1 home theater system; excellent sound quality on music and movies; component-grade AV receiver included; five HDMI inputs; iPod dock included; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio; can upconvert analog video sources to 1080i resolution.

The bad: Speakers are relatively large and boxy; video quality of upconverted analog video is mediocre.

The bottom line: While its bulky design isn't for everyone, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more full-featured and better sounding all-in-one 7.1 home theater system for the price than the Onkyo HT-S7200.

Chill...

5.1 done right is expensive..i'm still using a 2.1 in my living room since i don't have the funds to properly setup 5.1

2 better speakers is way better than buying 7 cheaper ones

less=more

you can run that unit as a 5.1... if dude is limited to space, the 2 towers and center channel will def do the job... my boy has the older version of this thing and its a beast... with the money dude is saving might he can always upgrade later while this system will probably satisfy and hold its own for the mean while...

monoprice.com for your needs.... wallmounts, and hdmi cables.... if you get the wallmounts go to the hardware store and get better bolts and stuff....

if you are on a budget on audio equipment, you can get a good receiver, 5 small speakers and a nice sub within a reasonable budget.

some examples i jacked:

what kind of speakers are those? Focals? ...my buddy recently recommended me Focals...saying there the most bang for the dollar...but i would have to upgrade the woofer since they suck ....i couldnt find any dealer in the US =/ ...my buddy moved back to Asia

those are kef on top and klipsch at the bottom.

every speaker brand usually has a satellite speaker set with a compact sub, or small bookshelf speakers. they can have holes on the back so you can attach them to wall mounts.

for subs under 1k, svs is a really good choice.

For sub go with an Epik Empire.

http://epiksubwoofers.com/empire.html

For about $950 shipped you get.

  • Reference dual 15 inch high output subwoofer
  • Exclusive 600W RMS amplifier
  • 1500W short-term RMS
  • Frequency response : 20-300 Hz 3.5 dB anechoic
  • True 15 Hz or lower in-room extension

Best bang for your buck. Easily outperforms or matches subs at $2k+ range.

SVS is good too. I originally had a SVS PB12-NSD then upgraded to a Epik Phoenix with it's massive 18 inch woofer, I couldn't be happier.

DIY is cheaper since you have to do all the work yourself and you get better performance for less than $950. For those that don't want all that work $950 is very reasonable for a subwoofer with dual subwoofer drivers if you want to have a good/decent subwoofer and not those toy HTIB subs.

It's a nice sub

but that enclosure looks tiny, so i can already tell it's gonna be peaky...esp for dual drivers.

Ported is also the way to go when it comes to HT for low extension..
