************Hurricane Sandy Thread************ vol. BE SAFE!!!

Bloomberg definitely gets a thumbs down for that. Postpone the marathon or cancel it outright.

Also, the classless truly show their colors in times like this:

A Guide to Posing for Glamour Shots in the Aftermath of a Devastating Natural Disaster

Nana Gouvêa is a modelactress-ish entity originally from Brazil who now resides with her husband in Manhattan. After Sandy devastated the city, Gouvêa and her husband ventured outdoors to document the destruction and to prove that there’s one thing killer storm surges can never wash away: raw sex appeal.

The resulting photoshoot quickly went viral, with many questioning the tastefulness of a disasterporn photospread. (Gouvêa also became a meme, as images of her posing were quickly Photoshopped against backdrops of other tragedies.)

Now, inspired by one woman’s admirable commitment to being photographed all the time, always, no matter what, we present:

The Gawker Guide to Posing for Glamour Shots in the Aftermath of a Natural Disaster

Tip 1: Destroyed Though It May Be, the World Is Your Prop

Walk around your neighborhood to find an image of gross devastation. Position yourself within it alluringly. Is that a dingy 1991 Honda Accord or a sleek Jaguar XKR with matte paint finish? Are those the downed limbs of uprooted trees, or pockets of lush greenery inside a tropical rain forest, over which you reign, as princess?

Tip 2: The City Needs a Sexy Hero. That Sexy Hero is You.

In the wake of a natural disaster, lots of people will be distraught. Maybe they’ve been without power for days, maybe they haven’t been able to check in with family members, maybe they even know someone who’s lost his or her life. What they need now is an image of hope, defiant in the face of tragedy. On September 11th, it was firefighters raising the flag above the rubble of the World Trade Center. Maybe now it’s you, striking a fierce diva pose in front of a Budget rental truck.

Bonus Tip: Swap your steely gaze for a pout and you look like the one responsible for the chaos and carnage. Did someone say “Bad Girl?”

Tip 3: Even Sexy Heroes Feel Vulnerable Sometimes

On the flip side: don’t be afraid to affect a look of vulnerability—this is known as “showing your human side.” If you have never experienced weakness, because you are Strong, Sexy, and Confident, feign it by grasping your limbs in different combinations. Left hand grabs right elbow. Right knee hooks left leg. Left arm hugs left thigh to chest. Don’t worry about the face – that can be rearranged in Photoshop.

Bonus Tip: If the scene is lacking in drama, stuff a garbage can with brightly colored paper and overturn it in the background

Tip 4: Sometimes the Best Photos Are Candid

Often, the most stirring images are of unstaged moments, captured by a skilled photographer named Serendipity. Of course, only a fool would leave their glamour shots to chance. Fake a candid photo by meticulously posing yourself “mid-stride” in front of an uprooted tree or flaming school.

Tip 5: The Bigger the Background Objects, the Smaller You Look

That’s just science.

Tip 6: Have Fun With It

The turmoil following a devastating natural disaster is a great opportunity to get out there and try poses, angles, and wardrobe choices you normally wouldn’t. This is a time for introspection and re-examining your personal style. Also a great time to stomp all over cars and things. Get out there and Do You.

Damn I know exactly where that is. There's another story on the island where a family of 3 didn't want to evacuate their home because when they did last year for Irene someone looted their house. :smh:

They found the 13 y.o daughter dead in the house, the mom 2 blocks away in a gutter, and the dad washed up on the beach 2 miles away.

when you live on the water you gotta adhere to evacuation rules, they're there for a reason. i understand their concern for looting but at what cost? valuables aren't as important as your life...

on a brighter note compared to all these scumbags and attention ******

Food Trucks Giving Out Free Meals Today In Manhattan And Brooklyn

Local food trucks have already played an important role in getting food to powerless spots around the city. Today the NYC Food Truck Association and JetBlue Airways announced they will be offering free meals to folks still without power in parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Between noon and 4 p.m. today, the trucks will be giving away 11,000 meals at seven different sites, acting as an alternative to the National Guard's distribution of food that began yesterday. Twelve trucks are rolling out to serve New Yorkers in need; here's where to find them:

Andy’s Italian Ice
Milk Truck
Frites n’ Meats
(Chelsea 8th Ave & 19th St)

Big D’s Grub
Coolhaus
(Washington Square - West 4th Street)

Cupcake Crew

Eddie’s Pizza
(Rockaways - Beach 50th and Beach Channel Drive)

Rickshaw Dumplings

Toum

Wafles and Dinges
(Astor Place)

Wafles and Dinges
(14th & 3rd Ave - Trader Joes)

Wafles and Dinges
(City Hall Park)

Sweetery
Mexico Blvd
(Tompkins Square Park)

Free tacos are wonderful but this takes Food Truck philanthropy to a whole other level. And although any food is welcome at this point, we're guessing these meals will taste a whole lot better than MREs

I'm not disagreeing. It's just an overall sad situation. Word is there were people going door to door dressed as con-ed and fdny robbing people too. There are still so many people without power here and the death toll keeps rising. And all staten islanders hear when they turn on the news is Manhattan this marathon that. Instead of putting everyone's power back on, they just want to make money.

**** Bloomberg.

I like to believe there is FAR more good than bad around here, just couldn't believe I saw two postings on CL re-selling gasolina.

A bike lane? The Kings Plaza area of Brooklyn is dumb far from Manhattan if you rode a bike  .

i googled it and it's like 20 miles. you can easily ride that if you truly wanted/needed to. that's all i'm saying. i know i would probably do it if i really needed to. however, if it was just for school, then i would just make that as an excuse not to go

that's disgusting. someone should straight rob him. i know two wrongs don't make a right, but damn that's really grimy

This Marathon stuff is ridiculous. Heard the Marathon is being provided with the bulk of pot a potties and people being kicked out of hotels for Marathon runners to have rooms

:smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh::smh:

Saw those pics of the model on Yahoo. I just don't understand the thought process for people actually doing that. So wrong on so many levels.

I don't get it man, they have generators running 24/7 which provides enough juice to power 400 homes without electricity.....and the marathon starts IN Staten Island where people have no homes and bodies are still being discovered.
They can;t postpone it one measly week? Its so disrespectful.
With all the cops going to have to be used for the marathon, it will be the perfect time for scumbags too loot stores and break into cars.

It's all another example of how NYC is just manhattan to everyone except those from outside boroughs
I'm not from NYC, but consider other boroughs part of it. Its all a giant metropolis connected to each other to form NYC. Of course, Manhattan is the center with all of the large buildings and skyscrapers, but the rest are still part.

:pimp: to the hotel owner

" 5 trains now run btw Dyre Ave and E 180 St. in Bronx. From there, customers can transfer for 2 service into Manhattan."

No more free MTA service after midnight.

Frustrated is an understatement. In the hood we have no power no water no gasno reception nothing. Migrated to my grandmas at the les but still no power but at least have water. The apartment in Chelsea is starting to stink. Piss and feces piling up. Family isn't starving or anything but its getting cold. I have it good compared to others. Hope everyone is safe and healthy during this time.
And last thing, the government doesn't give a dam about us.

Dwyane Wade showing that he has sense and decency in this situation by saying that the Heat/Knicks game should have been canceled because its not a priority given the situation. Black eye for the NBA. The city is still a mess as shown by shatteredknees' post and they're going through with this game? SMH.

Does anyone know where I can donate clothing or any other materials/canned goods in the Kings Plaza area of Brooklyn? I know I saw some posters who were around that area this week, hoping they know of any spots.

Gas is so crazy here on L.I (suffolk county) Mad cars lined up at closed station. Every station open and closed has a line at least 3 blocks long.
