Is it bad I don't care to listen to 97% of the hip hop out there today?

Rap seems like it's all under the trap umbrella because most producers have that trap sound nowadays.

peeped this thread and felt to make a response....

its natural within time to get to an age where you dont look for new stuff anymore....because of many factors, technology changes, overall free time and general interest...most people 27 and above around me currently feel like rap has lost it.......BUT those were the same folks that were very opinonated back in the late 90s and early 00s also...i know yall remember the folks that only listened to biggie/boom bap back in the day, or the people that only listened to g funk or the folks that only listened to anything that was on a screw tape in houston.

As for myself, ive always been the guy that listened to EVERYthing and gave it a chance....i do agree with most older heads, rap has changed...i cant tell for better or worse...most music is disposable imo....but theres alot of music that is good out there, i hear it all the time...

my current to go list

Future - tapes like purple reign where he speaks on real issues
YFN lucci
Young dolph - King of memphis

Kendrick
J cole
Joey Bad ***

ASAP Ferg...people sleeping on him for some reason
KRIT
Denzel Curry
Raury
Chance The Rapper
YG

Dave East
Isiah Rashad
Kodak Black
Le$
Propain
Beat King

Drake

...even the new guys
Young Thug
LIl Uzi
Lil Boat
21 Savage
playboy carti

and plenty more i cant name...

The key here now is that maaaaaany artists are not in the spotlight or in the stratosphere in reguards to stardom...they basically known with their own lil movements...

for every drake, that fills out arenas, theres 30 smaller acts that fill out small venues of about 200 people...all pushing product off the internet

Da only NEW NY rapper thats good is David East & he's basically a Vado 2.0..

Welcome back.

BUT this comment is wild disrespectful Ninja, Vado tho? :eek

Vado is no where close to East, lyrically, sonically, substance, story telling, etc. it's not even close b.

A better comparison would be Stack Bundles, definitely not Vado, and Vado is my homie :lol

Dave East sounds like J. Cole with a Felony record..i mean ive seen this story a million

Times, at this point unless u blatantly

Counterfeiting da south, roll wit a already

Established Clique, or got a social media gimmick then

Idk how real rap wins in this climate anymore...

^^^Repped. Even though I can't stand Uzi, Scott, or Yachty...you get it.

Also, I forgot to add Tiller on my list. He may not be "rap"....but that ****** will guide you to the P easily.

Exchange :hat

He swiped not bad but I was never a fan of simp music. Not saying u a simp tho and seeing how I got a girl I don't really cut on the new **** that ******* like. Point in my life, hey i, and truth hurts the kinda slow rap **** I like. I heard that exchange song and quickly turned it off.

Drake is consistent as hell imo
Future too

The atlanta production sound just has a monopoly on the game rite now.

I dunno if its because im getting older but yea i agree with op.
i cant put my finger on it...sum songs get me hype but they dont make the hair on your arms stand up u knoe?

BUT....i always prefered 90s rap.....bad boy...death row....atcq....etc etc and 90s r and b

To any era.

90s hip hop is considered the GOLDEN era to most for a reason lol. But like many others have stated theres plenty of talented artists out there. I feel like this is the era of producers & harmonizing rappers at least with the BIG rappers out. Producers should get more credit cause they really carrying some of these guys

I swear y'all think I be playing, my girl hate that kinda music too. Idk who it was and she told me it was him then said she hate the song then power of turned it. She really hate all soft "rap". She hate drake, hated honest era future. Crazy Cuz her phone 80% 90s R&B 10% 2000-2016 R&B and the rest is prime gucci, future etc. Her new favorite joint is Lil uzi- queso

And I just hate simp rap man, it makes me wanna slap somebody. When I hear it is feel like I need to get locked in a empty room with faneto on repeat to rinse the moistness out my ears.

Dave East seems to be en route to making it if he drops his "breakout" mixtape this year (a la So Far Gone, Acid Rap, etc.) and it has a few big records on it.

I don't know if you consider Mass Appeal to be an already established clique though. Nas is behind it but IDK if it's a true clique like MMG or YM or OVO

Tory Lanez good for this too.

And at the same time can drop some hard ****.

Music today lacks substance....at least what's being pushed. Other than "new" cats Cole, Kendrick, Krit, and a few others, and the OG vets, there's really no lyrcisim and it's all about takin somebody's girl, what kinda drugs they sell/use, how them or their homies keep a tool and will kill you, or how many *******/money they have. I don't really care about that.

Its not whats said but how its said. Dudes back then were just better lyricist rapping bout similar subjects. So i understand what he saying
I'm pretty sure NWA, Tupac, and Biggie were pretty straight forward about their messages in regards to women, drug dealing, drinking, smoking, rolling with the musket, etc.. People love to over think this **** let us cook B

Why does understanding something automatically mean AGREEING to yall lol. Go look at my first post in here to see my opinion on this topic...

We just gon deny that past rappers were better lyricists btw, ok :lol

So you don't think it's destructive to the community?

What? Sometimes I wonder if some of you listen to lyrics or don't listen to the names you randomly throw out, because that's all Biggie, NWA and Tupac talked about?

I never said that's all they talked about but did they not talk about those things in a good amount of their songs? Obviously their delivery was much different than most rappers now. I do agree that they were better lyricists for sure but the subject matter is still mostly the same outside of songs that touched base on "serious matters" (Brenda's got a baby, Keep ya head up, etc).

All I'm saying is that rappers in the 90's definitely had more substance in some of their tracks but mostly rap today is about the same **** they were talking about in the 90's. Although I guess dudes didn't really talk about their drug of choice like that

And here is the beautiful irony. No that's not ALL they talked about. And this is not ALL a lot of the artist today you hear talk about. You might hear the most popular song from them, and quickly dismiss them and draw a conclusion. People could easily do that with Biggie, Pac or NWA.

Like if I grew up on 80s rap and heard biggie for the first time on the radio, I'd say all he talks about is Versace, partying, selling drugs and killing people. These are the very same conclusions that you, and a lot of the other close minded old hip hop people have when discussing some of today's rappers.

But they very clearly had some very direct lyrics about mysoginy, killing people, selling drugs etc. I love biggie...but he was talking about raping kids b. Raping kids :{. NWA might be the most mysogonist group of all time. No that's not ALL THEY RAP ABOUT, but they do rap about it.

Like you laughed when I made a comparrison to old Boosie and Tupac. But I can guarantee that you never took the time to actually listen to the lyrics of the hundreds of Songs Boosie has with depth and substance. Or Future, or any of the newer artist. Who you think all they rap about is "blah" "blah" blah"

wavycrocket wavycrocket 100% how I feel, especially in regards to how people view somebody like Boosie's music.

_'s hear a single like Wipe Me Down and think that sums up their entire catalog when it's literally the exact opposite :lol

He talked about raping kids? One line means he's talking about raping kids?

I'm surprised Magic played that "destructive to the community" card. I know he remembers when old heads in the 90's were saying the same **** about Snoop, Cube, Pac, Biggie everybody.

But the reason why the 90's was better is cuz it was balance. Coke rap, black conscious rap, party rap, etc. Rappers from every coast had their own sound.
